Earning a place on this year’s second team was senior team member Marissa Cooperman (Jenkintown, PA/Abington Friends School) and junior standout Lisa Archibald (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley).
At Right: Marissa Cooperman The second team honor is the second in the four year career of Cooperman who recorded one singles and one doubles victory in 2008. Cooperman’s lone single’s victory came against Neumann College’s Allison Trout in late October. Earlier in the season the Jenkintown, Pa. native picked up her only doubles victory in the 5-4 victory over Immaculata.
At Left: Lisa Archibald For Archibald, Wednesday’s all-conference selection marks the second of her career. Last season, she was named a first team selection. In her junior season, Archibald led the Lady Lions in both singles and doubles victories when paired with Ashley Woodcock (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford). Of her 11 singles matches played, Archibald finished the season with an overall record of 5-6, and had a conference singles record of 2-3. In doubles competition Archibald and Woodcock closed out the season with a record of 3-5, 1-2 in Commonwealth Conference play. | Women’s Tennis Drops Season Finale to NeumannMonday, October 20, 2008 READING, PA - Senior Marissa Cooperman (Jenkintown, PA/Abington Friends School) ended her career on a high note winning her final singles match Monday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Courts. Alongside Cooperman was Lisa Archibald (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) who recorded the only other singles victory of the afternoon in the 7-2 loss to Neumann College (12-9). Archibald who recorded a singles and doubles victory at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships defeated her Neumann opponent Alice DeTolla by the scores of 6-2, and 6-3. Following the second doubles victory, Albright would drop their remaining singles matches. Mellissa Yake (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) played extremely hard in her sixth singles match against Kayla Chamberlain. Unfortunately a 6-3, 6-1 score would be all Chamberlain would need to pull out the victory. Neumann would then go onto sweep in doubles play. In first doubles the senior duo of Cooperman and Stacy Bampton (Laureldale, PA/Muhlenberg) were defeated 8-4 by the Knights DeTolla and Rachel Doladonato. Archibald and partner Ashley Woodcock (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) fell in the second doubles match of the day 8-2, and Liz Stauffer (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) and Janet Mallamaci (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) closed out the afternoon falling 8-0 to the Neumann duo.
