| Nineteen Named to the MASCAC Winter Academic Honor Roll Friday, April 3, 2009 ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) winter Academic Honor Roll, which notes academic excellence by student-athletes, contains 315 honorees as announced by Executive Director Ken Andrews.
The Honor Roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.
Messiah led in selections with 52 student-athletes, while Lebanon Valley was second with 35, followed by Elizabethtown at 33. Widener was fourth with 31 student-athletes on the list. DeSales was fifth with 26 and Lycoming had 25 student-athletes. Misericordia and Albright tied for seventh with 19. Arcadia was ninth with 17, King’s was tenth with 14, and Delaware Valley had 11 followed by Alvernia and Manhattanville (7), Wilkes (6), FDU-Florham (5), and Eastern (4).
Featured on the Winter Honor Roll are MAC Swimmer of the Year honoree Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) and Women's Basketball First Team All-Conference selection Annie McMahon (Havertown, PA/Haverford).
Student-athletes are selected from men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s track & field, women’s track & field, men’s swimming and women’s swimming.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Still in the hunt to earn their fifth straight conference championship, the Lions knew that they were going to be very busy in the final two days of the MAC Championships. In Saturday’s crucial meet, Albright totaled three first place finishes. The first top time went to Tara McAdams (Phoenixville, PA/Great Valley) in the 100 yard butterfly. With a time of 1:02.27, McAdams earned the Lions a crucial 20 points. Behind her was Kelly Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) who finished in fourth place with a time of 1:04.65. Prior to McAdams victory in the 100 fly, senior Jessica Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) finished in third place in the 400 yard IM. Williams ended the event with a time of 4:53.32, while teammate Adrienne Peoples (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) finished the race in fifth place with a final time of 5:01.86. Allison Fies (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) gave the Red and White another victory in the 200 yard freestyle. Her career best time of 1:58.37 gave Albright another 20 points as they continued to battle it out with Misericordia for the lead. Finishing in fourth place in the 200 yard free was Erika Giberson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), and in seventh place was Lauren Onusko (Winstead, CT/The Gilbert School). The afternoon’s final victory belonged to the relay team of Aimee Snyder (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg), Giberson, Sarah Noonan (Frederick, MD/Urbana), and Fies. The four swimmers earned a final time of 8:08.03 to take the 800 yard freestyle relay. On the final day of competition Albright added two more top marks to their total as well as numerous top five finishers. The Lions got an early start with a first place time of 18:31.98 by Peoples in the 1,650 yard freestyle. Behind Peoples in third place was Kelly Williams who recorded a time of 18:58.39. Snyder claimed a third place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a career best time of 2:16.77. Albright posted four top ten finishers in the 100 yard freestyle. Led by Fies third place mark of 55.53, the Lions earned a combined 46 points in the event. The championship’s final individual event, the 200 yard butterfly, went to senior Jess Williams, who posted a time of 2:15.02. Next to her the entire way was McAdams who ended the event in second place (2:18.71). Albright had their hands full in the final event of the day, the 400 yard freestyle relay. In probably one of their closest races all season, the Lions fell to a tough Misericordia team by only .65 of a second (3:42.90). The relay victory for the Cougars also secured the top spot in the standings as they were named the 2009 conference champions. Eavenson Award (Female): Gretchen Geiger, Elizabethtown | Peoples Records Top Finish in First Day of Conference ChampionshipFriday, February 13, 2009 WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - In the first day of the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship Swim meet senior swimmer Adrienne Peoples (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) claimed the only top finish on the women’s side in the 500 yard freestyle event. The senior swimmer closed out the event with a final time of 5:24.43, which was a season best for her.
To start off the afternoon, the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Kathryn Oeste (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville), Lauren Onusko (Winstead, CT/The Gilbert School), Aimee Snyder (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg), and Allison Fies (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) finished in second place in what turned out to be a very close heat as they were defeated by Misericordia by less than one second. Also competing in the 500 yard freestyle were Jill Franc (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) and Rebecca Woskoff (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai). The two swimmers posted final times of 5:53.11 and 5:55.49 respectively. At Right: Adrienne Peoples won the 500 yard freestyle event at the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships In the 200 yard IM, Jess Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) closed out the event in third place with a time of 2:18.83, while Sarah Noonan (Frederick, MD/Urbana) trailed her teammate by one second to finish in fourth place for the Lady Lions. A total of three Albright swimmers qualified for the finals in the 50 yard freestyle. Snyder led the trio with a time of 25.52 which placed her third overall. Oeste ended the event in seventh place with a time of 25.68, while Onusko earned 14th place with a time of 26.65. In the day’s final event the 400 yard medley relay, the Lions recorded a third place finish with a time of 4:12.99. Swimming will continue their hunt for a conference championship this afternoon as they get set to compete in the second day of competition.
