Keyes closed out her 2009 campaign at Albright as the team’s top offensive producer.  Her slugging percentage of .803 not only led the red and white this season, but set a new single season record at Albright as well.

In a total of 25 games played this season, Keys led the team with five home runs and six doubles.  The Nazareth, Pa native also produced 32 hits, 24 RBI’s, and 16 runs in 66 at-bats.  Her .485 batter average was amongst the top averages in the Commonwealth Conference.

Career wise, Keyes holds the single season (9, ’08) and career (24) home run records at Albright.  She also stands as the all-time RBI earner with 103 and her career batting average of .354 ranks her fifth all-time.  In her four seasons, Keyes started in 133 of the 135 games she played in.

Softball Swept by Warriors in Season Finale

Saturday, April 25, 2009

MACWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - In their 2009 Commonwealth Conference season finale, the Lady Lions dropped back-to-back games to the host Warriors of Lycoming College Saturday afternoon at Shangraw Complex.

Albright closed its 2009 campaign with an overall record of 5-29, 1-11 in the Commonwealth Conference.  Lycoming also closed its 2009 season on Saturday, and finished the year with a record of 12-22, 4-8 in the conference.

In game one of the doubleheader, Lycoming jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the third inning.  They then added some additional breathing room in the next two innings to take a 5-0 lead.  Albright did try to rally back in the seventh tacking on a pair of early runs.

Unfortunately, Lycoming was able to hold on to pull out the 5-2 decision.  The nightcap was just as close as the opener.  This time, the Lions held onto an early one run lead (2-1) after the second inning.  The Warriors did even the score in the bottom half of the third.  They then scored four unanswered runs to secure the 6-2 conference victory.

At the plate, freshman third baseman Becky Crandall (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) led the team with a combined four hits in six at-bats respectively.  She was also responsible for one run.

On the mound in game one, sophomore Dana Parolari (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) threw all six innings allowing five runs on 10 hits, while also striking out four Warrior hitters.

Game two saw Alex Tragno (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) throw six complete innings.  The freshman righty dished out three strikeouts in the nightcap, and surrendered six runs on 11 hits.

Softball Earns Conference Split with Widener

Saturday, April 18, 2009

MACREADING, Pa. -  In their final home conference doubleheader of the season the host Lady Lions (5-27/1-9 Commonwealth) picked up their first conference win defeating Widener University (20-14/5-5 Commonwealth) by the score of 3-2 in the nightcap.  In game one of the doubleheader Widener defeated Albright by the score of 12-1 in five innings.Alexandra Keyes with her family

Prior to the start of Saturday’s doubleheader the Lady Lions and their fans took a moment to recognize senior team member Alexandra Keyes (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area).  Keyes, who has been out of competition the last two weeks, will leave Albright as one of the greatest hitters to ever wear the red and white uniform.  To date the third baseman is the all-time homerun queen and RB I earner.

At Right:  Alexandra Keyes celebrates her final home game
of her career with a 3-2 win over Widener University

In game one sophomore pitcher Dana Parolari (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) threw all five innings, and surrendered 14 hits.  The Lions lone run of the opener was scored by Olivia Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley), who doubled to left field to start off the inning.

Following her double, junior Kelli Johnson (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg) advanced Miller to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Miller then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 in favor of the Pride.  Widener initially started the contest off with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

They then added another two runs to their side of the scoreboard in the top of the third and fourth innings.  Widener blew the game wide open in the fifth with six unanswered runs to secure the 12-1 victory.

Moving into the nightcap, Keyes helped her team to the 3-2 victory on a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.  Also totaling two hits in game two was sophomore Haley Todd (Felton, DE/Lake Forest).

Righty pitcher Alex Tragno (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) picked up her second win of the season after throwing the first five innings.  Despite giving up nine hits, the Lions defense managed to hold the Pride to one run.  Parolari returned in game two and earned her first save of the season, throwing the final two innings.  In her two inning appearance she allowed just two hits and one run.

The first run of game two belonged to Albright in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single from Todd.  Albright then made it a two run ball game in fourth on an RBI single from junior catcher Gloria Alfonsi (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area), which scored Keyes.  Keyes initially started off the inning with a double to left field.

Widener finally put their first run on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning to make it 2-1 in favor of the Lady Lions.  Albright retook their two run lead in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Mary Dwyer (Jacobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) doubled to right center scoring Alfonsi.  In a last ditch effort, the Pride tried to battle back in the seventh but fell just short.

Softball returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Lycoming College for their final conference doubleheader of the regular season.  Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
