2008 Outdoor Track and Field Meet Recaps
May 1-3, 2008: MAC Championship Meet
Chester, PA - Senior John Barkley and freshman Chris Donisi each won gold to lead Albright at the MAC Outdoor Championship meet Thursday through Saturday on the campus of Widener University.
Barkley came back from an injury-plagued senior season with a win in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. He crossed the finish line in 9:46.99 to capture the first MAC Championship of his highly successful career.
While Barkley was putting the finishing touches on his distinguished four seasons at Albright, Donisi writing the first chapter of what promises to be a big career of his own. In his first MAC Outdoor Championship meet Donisi won the long jump, an event he has dominated throughout the outdoor season, with a leap of 22’ 8” to beat his closest competitor by seven inches and take home the gold medal.
Junior Brianne Genter turned in a great effort in the women’s sprints for the Lady Lions, as she placed second in the 200 meter dash in 26.98 seconds and third in the 100 meter dash in 13.16 seconds. Freshman Dwight Savoy placed in three events in the meet. Savoy’s best finish was a fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, which he completed in 16.87 seconds. He tied for fourth in the high jump with teammate Justin Jones, as both Lions cleared 5’ 9 ¾”, and also took seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 41’ ¼”. Junior Ryan Thomas was second in the hammer throw, coming up with a long throw of 137’ 8”. Senior Becca White and freshman Shannon Finley were also double-place winners in the meet, with White doing her work in the distance runs while Finley placed in both hurdles events. White earned a fifth-place finish in the 10,000 meter run Thursday night with a time of 40:37.24, then took sixth in the 5,000 meter run on Saturday in 19:12.36. Finley was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:12.55, and also took eighth in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.93 seconds.
Completing the list of place-winners in the meet for Albright are De’on Mallory in the triple jump (4th), Jo Jo Ward in the 10,000 meter run (6th), Meghan Loos in the 400 meter dash (7th), Renisha Conway in the long jump (8th), and Christie Weist in the hammer throw (8th). For the Albright men, Ryan Bausch captured fifth in the triple jump, while Justin Plummer and Tony Pellegrino were seventh and eighth in the shot put.
Both the men and women also scored valuable team points in the relay events. The Lady Lions finished fifth in the 4 x 100 meter relay and sixth in the 4 x 400 meter relay, while the men also placed fifth in the 4 x 100 and took seventh in the 4 x 400. In the overall team competitions, both the Albright men and women finished sixth in the meet.
April 26, 2008: Paul Kaiser Classic
Shippensburg, PA - Albright prepped for the MAC Championships next weekend at the Paul Kaiser Classic on the campus of Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon. Brianne Genter highlighted the Albright women on the day, placing in two events and qualifying for ECAC’s in the 100 meter dash. She finished the 100 in 12.89 seconds to place sixth and hit the ECAC qualifying time. Genter also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash in 26.75 seconds. Tow other Lady Lions placed on Saturday. Sami Nimmerichter finished sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 15:04.95, and Becca White took seventh in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:35. On the men’s side, Dwight Savoy was a double place-winner for the Lions. Savoy took seventh place in the 110 high hurdles, hitting the finish line in 17.20 seconds, and was also seventh in the high jump, clearing 6’ ¾”. Chris Donisi placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 10 ½”, and Ryan Bausch took seventh in the triple jump, covering 42’ 7 ½” to complete a strong showing in the jumps for Albright. Two other Lions placed on the day, as Robert Kellert finished eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:28.09, and Ryan Thomas placed eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 127’ 6”.
April 18, 2008: Millersville Metrics
Millersville, PA - Freshman Chris Donisi continued his phenomenal season Friday at the Millersville Metrics, setting a new school record in the outdoor long jump in winning the event for the fifth straight meet. Donisi ripped off a career-best leap of 23’ 2 ½” to set the new Albright standard, and also meet the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Donisi’s performance was just one of many great efforts on the day for the Lions. Freshman Dwight Savoy won two events, taking the 110 meter hurdles in 17.43 seconds, then winning the high jump by clearing 6’ 0”. Justin Jones was second in the high jump, as he cleared 5’ 7”. Robert Kellert and Dan Dalton went 2-3 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, with Kellert finishing in a time of 11:14.85 and Dalton crossing the line in 11:45.04. The Lions also got a 2-3 finish in the shot put thanks to Justin Plummer and Tony Pellegrino. Plummer took second with a toss that travelled 42’ 4 ¼”, while Pellegrino finished third with a mark of 39’ 9 ¾”. Pellegrino was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 110’ 9”, followed by Tim Alabi in sixth at 110’ 4” and Plummer in seventh at 100’ 3”. Three Lions placed in the top six in the 100 meter dash, led by Robert Kenney’s third-place finish. Kenney’s time was 11.41 seconds. Donisi was fourth in 11.51, and Ryan Bausch placed sixth in 12.11. Eli Fry placed second in the 5,000 meter run in 17:57.96 and Kenney took sixth in the 200 meter dash in 22.92 to complete the list of place-winners for the Albright men on the day. The Lady Lions were just as strong in the meet, led by first-place finishes from Shannon Finley and De’on Mallory. Finley won the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 17.29 seconds. Mallory captured first her signature event, the triple jump, out-distancing the field with a leap of 32’ ¾”. Sami Nimmerichter finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:35.63, Renisha Conway placed second in the long jump, covering 15’ 10 ½”, and Erica Zeiters took second in the pole vault, clearing 6’ 6” to continue the strong run for Albright. Brianne Genter placed in a pair of events, taking third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash. Finley also placed in the 200 meter dash, taking sixth position. Christie Weist also placed in two events, finishing fourth in the shot put and seventh in the discus. Becca White and Jo Jo Ward rounded out the place-winners for Albright, finishing third and eighth respectively in the 1,500 meter run. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Finley, Genter, Meghan Loos, and Shannon Loos, placed second with a time of 52.30 seconds, meeting the ECAC qualifying mark in the process.
April 5, 2008: Muhlenberg Invitational
Bethlehem, PA - Chris Donisi won the long jump at the Muhlenberg Invitational Meet Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem. Donisi captured the win with an outdoor season-best leap of 22' 9 ¾". Donisi led five Lions who placed in the meet. Ryan Thomas finished second in the hammer throw, coming up with a throw of 134' 9". Ryan Bausch cleared 42' 3 ½" in the triple jump to capture third place in that event, Justin Plummer was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 41' 3 ¾", and Andrew Hettinger tool seventh in the discus with a toss of 122' 11". For the Lady Lions, Brianne Genter placed in two events to lead the way. Genter finished 5 th in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 27.21 seconds, and also took seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.28. De'on Mallory placed sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 31' 10 ¾", and Becca White was seventh in the 5,000 meter run in 19:27.44 to complete the list of place winners for the Albright women on the day.

March 29, 2008: Millersville Invitational
Millersville, PA - Albright competed in the Millersville Invitational Saturday morning, and brought home four event wins on the day. Brianne Genter led the way for the Lady Lions, as she won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.30 seconds, and also took second place in the 200 meter dash. De'on Mallory was victorious in the triple jump, besting the competition in with a leap of 34' 1 ½". Albright got strong performances from a number of athletes, including Shannon Finley, who placed second in the 400 meter hurdles and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Becca White was also a double place-winner for the Lady Lions, finishing fourth in the 1,500 meter run and seventh in the 800 meter run. Meghan Loos tied for second in the high jump and Sami Nimmerichter took third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to complete the place-winners for the Lady Lions on the day. Albright finished fourth in the overall competition. For the Lion men, Chris Donisi captured first place in the long jump with a leap of 22' 7 ¾". Ryan Bausch continued Albright's strong showing in the jumps by winning the triple jump, covering 42' 10 ¾" with his winning effort. Anthony Pellegrino had a big day for Albright, placing in three throwing events. Pellegrino took third in the hammer throw, fourth in the shot put, and seventh in the discus. Dwight Savoy and Andrew Hettinger each placed in two events, with Savoy finishing fifth in the 110 meter hurdles and sixth in the high jump, and Hettinger taking fourth in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus. Tim Alabi placed third in the discus and Rob Kenney took fourth in the 200 meter dash to round out the individual place-winners for the Lions, who finished fourth in the team competition.
March 21, 2008: West Chester Invitational
West Chester, PA - Albright opened its outdoor season at the Golden Ram Collegiate Invitational on the campus of West Chester University. Senior John Barkley and freshman Chris Donisi led Albright on the day, with Barkley winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Donisi finishing first in the long jump. Barkley finished the steeplechase in 10:08.4, out-pacing the nearest competitor by over 30 seconds. Donisi won the long jump with a leap of 21' ¾". Senior Becca White turned in a strong run in the 5,000 meters, placing second in a time of 19:55.00. Freshman Shannon Finley finished third in the women's long jump with a jump of 14' 10 ½" and junior Ryan Bausch took third in the triple jump, covering 40' 2 ¾", to complete the place winners for the Lions on the day.
