February 10, 2008: MAC Championship Meet Day Three

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) won his third individual championship, set his second school and pool record, and was named the David Eavenson Most Outstanding Swimmer to highlight Albright's run on Day Three of the MAC Championship meet Sunday night. Fellow Freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) was named the MAC Rookie of the Year after winning one title and finishing second in two other races. Albright finished in second place in the meet, trailing only Widener in the race for the conference crown.

Kramer completed his trifecta with a riveting performance in the 1,650 freestyle. He finished the race in an time of 16:41.58, eclipsing the CYC pool mark, as well as the old Albright mark of 16:43.28 set by Matt Stumhoffer in March of 2003. Kramer had company in the 1,650, as junior Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) placed fourth in 17:21.09 and freshman Ryan McGroarty (Media, PA/Penncrest) was eighth in 17:51.33. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) turned in a record-setting performance in the 200 butterfly, finishing second in the race in 1:59.03 to break the old mark of 1:59.77 set by Andy Ikeler in 2004. Freshman Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) finished right behind Stoloski in third place, finishing in 2:03.41. Sheerer took second place in the 200 backstroke, leading three Lions in the "A" final with a time of 1:56.90. Junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) placed sixth with a time of 2:05.33, while senior David Kile (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) was eighth in 2:09.78. In the 200 breaststroke freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) picked up a third-place finish, coming home in 2:20.98. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) went 4-5 in the 100 freestyle, with Daney finishing in 49.31 and Kubacki touching the wall in 49.33.

In the final event of the meet, Albright finished second in the 400 free relay. Kramer, Kubacki, Daney, and Sheerer teamed up to finish in a time of 3:12.35.

February 9, 2008: MAC Championship Meet Day Two

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Freshmen Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) and Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) each set another team record for Albright on the second day of the MAC Championship Meet. The Lions remain in second place after two days of competition with 408 points, trailing only Widener's 599.

Kramer captured the only individual title of the day for the Lions, and he did it in style. Kramer blitzed the 200 freestyle in 1:45.21, setting not only a new Albright record but also a new CYC pool mark. He shattered the old school mark of 1:46.20 set by Eric Daney in February of 2003. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) also had a strong race in the 200, finishing third in 1:47.44. Sheerer set his second team record in as many days in the 100 backstroke. He touched the wall in 52.90, finishing second by just 47 hundredths of a second. He broke Eric Daney's previous record of 53.48 set in 2004. Junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) placed fifth in the race in 56.16 and senior David Kile (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) took eighth in 58.93. Albright also placed three swimmers in the A final of the 100 butterfly. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) was second in 52.92, freshman Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) was third in 53.58, and sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) finished sixth in 54.43. The final individual place winner for Albright was freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock), who took fourth place in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:03.75.

The Lions took second place in both of the night's relay races. Sheerer, Hash, Stoloski, and Kubacki were second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.50, while Kramer, Kubacki, Stoloski, and Daney finished second in the 800 free relay in 7:12.42.

February 8, 2008: MAC Championship Meet Day One

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) won the 200 IM, setting a school and MAC championship meet record in the process, to lead Albright on the first day of the MAC Championship Meet at the CYC pool in Wilkes-Barre Friday night. Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) also scored an individual championship, capturing the 500 freestyle event to help Albright into second-place in the standings behind Widener heading into Saturday's second day of competition. The Lions, with 189 points, trail the Pride by 75 points after one day of action.

Sheerer won the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.59, narrowly edging Widener's Kevin Carson by two one-hundredth's of a second. His time set a new MAC Championship record and eclipsed the old Albright record of 1:57.19 set by Eric Daney at MAC's in 2006. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) finished fourth in the race for the Lions. Kramer also etched his name in the school record books, winning the 500 free in a time of 4:43.13 to surpass the previous mark of 4:46.36 held by Andy Ikeler since 2004. Kramer was one of three Lions in the 500 free finals, as senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) placed fourth and junior Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) finished eighth. In the only other individual race of the night, sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) took sixth in the 50 free with a time of 22.66 seconds.

The Lions took second place in both relay events of the day. In the 200 free relay Kubacki, Sheerer, Stoloski, and junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) placed second with a time of 1:27.93. To close out the evening, Sheerer, Stoloski, Daney, and freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) took second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:36.55.

January 26, 2008: Albright 111, Misericordia 70

Scranton, PA - Albright closed out its 2007-08 dual meet season in style on Saturday, setting three new pool records in a 111-70 win at Misericordia. The Lions are 6-4 this winter, 5-1 against MAC opponents. Misericordia falls to 4-6, 2-2 with the loss.

Albright won 10 of 11 events contested on the afternoon. The Lions opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) joined freshmen Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley), Jordan Hash (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock), and Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) to touch the wall in 3:47.50. The first pool record of the day for the Lions came in the first individual race, as junior Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) won the 1,650 free in 17:52.99. Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) followed with the first of his two wins on the day, taking the 200 free in 1:49.71. After Rob Jacobs won the 50 free for Misericordia, Stoloski took the 200 IM in 2:07.33 and O'Neill finished first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.97. Sheerer kept things rolling for the Lions with a win in the 100 free, finishing in 50.07 for the first of his two victories on the day. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) captured the 200 backstroke in 2:09.50, then Kramer and Sheerer put their names in the Misericordia record books. Kramer set a new pool mark in the 500 free, coming home in 4:56.16, and Sheerer followed with a new pool record in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:17.19. Albright closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, as Daney, Stoloski, and Kramer teamed up with sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) took first with a time of 3:22.79.

January 19, 2008: Susquehanna 108, Albright 97

Reading, PA - Freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/.Conestoga Valley) set a pool record in the 200 IM, his second pool record in seven days, but Susquehanna edged Albright 108-97 in the Albright Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The Lions fall to 5-4 on the season, while the Crusaders remain unbeaten in dual meets at 10-0.

Sheerer won two events in the meet, as her also captured the 100 backstroke to go along with his record-setting effort in the 200 IM. He finished the 200 IM in 1:59.76, breaking the old record by over 1.5 seconds. Sheerer's winning time in the 100 back was 54.68. Lion freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) also won two individual events in the meet, taking both the 1,000 and 500 free races. Kramer touched the wall in 10:15.71 in the 1,000, then came back to win the 500 in 4:55.46. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) also picked up an individual event victory for the Lions, finishing first in the 100 butterfly in 53.56. The Lions were victorious in the 200 medley relay, with Sheerer and Stoloski joining junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) to win in 1:41.54.

Susquehanna also got into to pool record act, as Derek Wolf set a new mark in the 100 breaststroke. Wolf touched the wall in 1:00.72 to lower the record by a little more than one second. Then, in the final event of the meet and leading by just one point, the Crusader 400 free relay team set another pool record, finishing in 3:17.50, to close out the win against the Lions.

January 12, 2008: Albright 109, Elizabethtown 65

Reading, PA - Albright won 10 of 11 events contested Saturday afternoon as the Lions cruised past MAC for Elizabethtown 109-65 in the Albright Natatorium. The victory pushes Albright's record against MAC opposition to 4-1 in 2007-08, with the Lions improving to 5-3 overall. Elizabethtown is now 4-2, 4-6 on the season.

Freshmen Eric Kramer and Chris Sheerer and senior Adam Daney each won two individual events to lead Albright's win. Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) was victorious in the 500 free, finishing in 4:57.34, and the 1,000 free, with a winning time of 11:08.96. Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) claimed his wins in the 400 IM (4:20.47) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.22). Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) collected first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 free, taking the 100 in 50.24 and the 200 in 1:50.31. Junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) captured the 100 butterfly in 55.20, and junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) won the 100 backstroke in 59.44 for Albright's other two individual victories.

The Lions also placed first in both the 200 medley and 200 free relay races. Sheerer and Stoloski teamed up with freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) and sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:43.55. Daney, Kubacki, Ferrara and freshman Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) combined to take the 200 free relay, out-pacing the competition with a time of 1:33.94.

January 11, 2008: Kutztown 152, Albright 96

Reading, PA - Freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) won a pair of individual events for Albright Friday night, but the Lions came up on the short end of a 152-96 loss to Kutztown in the Albright Natatorium. The Golden Bears are now 4-1 on the season with the win, while the Lions fall to 4-3.

Sheerer was a bright spot for Albright, as he won both the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. He won the 100 back in 55.96, and took the 200 IM in 2:02.08. Albright also got individual event wins from junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run). Stoloski captured the 100 butterfly in 54.00, while Kramer finished first in the 500 free in 5:01.40. For KU, Scott Thomas, Nicholas Williams, and Sean Bonifas each won two events.

The Lions will return to the pool tomorrow afternoon when Elizabethtown visits for a 1:00 MAC meet.

December 1-2, 2007: Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational

Middletown, CT - Albright finished third out of five teams in the Cardinal Invitational on the campus of Wesleyan University Saturday and Sunday. The Lions completed the meet with 664 points. Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) had a strong meet, picking up second place finishes in the 500 free and 200 free and adding a third in the 1650 free. Junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) also collected a pair of second-place finishes in the meet. Ferrara took second in the 50 and 100 back events, while Sheerer grabbed his second-place finishes in the 200 IM and 200 back. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) placed second in the 100 fly for the Lions as well, in addition to a third-place effort in the 100 free. The Lions also took second in the 200 medley relay. Sheerer joined junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam), and freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewbury, PA/Susquehannock) to touch the wall less than a second behind the Wesleyan team. .

November 17, 2007: Albright 104, Arcadia 73

Glenside, PA - Albright won six individual events and swept the relay races to beat Arcadia 104-73 Saturday afternoon. The win snaps a two-meet losing streak for the Lions, who are 4-2 overall and 3-1 against MAC competition. Arcadia falls to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the MAC with the loss.

Freshman Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) led Albright with a pair of victories in the meet. He picked up his first win of the afternoon in the 200 free, finishing in 1:58.80. His second win came in the 100 back in 1:02.39. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) won the 50 free for the Lions in 23.87, and sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) finished first in the 200 IM in 2:11.83. Albright also got a win from freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley)in the 100 free (50.53) and freshman Ryan McGroarty (Media, PA/Penncrest) in the 500 free (5:34.91). The Lions dominated the relay events, first taking the 200 medley relay in 1:49.50. O'Neill and McGroarty joined freshman Jordan Hash (Shrewbury, PA/Susquehannock) and junior John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) to take the win. Albright finished the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, with Sheerer, Kubacki, and Daney teaming up with sophomore Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) to win in 1:35.16.


November 16, 2007: Bloomsburg 117, Albright 88

Reading, PA - Freshman Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) won three individual events for the second consecutive meet, but Albright fell to Bloomsburg 117-88 Friday night in the Albright Natatorium. The Lions are now 3-2 on the season, while Bloom improves to 3-0.

Sheerer picked up victories for Albright in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.81, the 200 back in 2:02.28, and the 200 breast in 2:18.15. Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) picked up a win in the 200 free (1:50.44), and sophomore Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) won the 500 free (5:00.12). Bloomsburg won the other four individual events and swept both relay races in picking up the win.

Albright returns to action Saturday with a meet at MAC newcomer Arcadia at 1:00.

November 10, 2007: Widener 119, Albright 86

Reading, PA - In an early season battle of MAC heavyweights, Widener came away with a 119-86 win over Albright Saturday afternoon. The loss os the first if the season for the Lions, who fall to 3-1 overall and 2-1 against MAC opponents. Widener remains unbeaten at 3-0 with the win.

A pair of freshmen provided the bright spots for Albright in the meet. In his first ever meeting with the Pride, Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) won three events for the Lions. He won the 200 IM in a time of 2:02.73, finished first in the 200 back in 2:02.50, then took the 200 breast in 2:19.62 to complete his trifecta. Fellow freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) also had a big day for Albright, as he swept the distance free events. He won the 1,000 free in 10:22.21, then later in the meet captured the 500 free in 5:00.06. Those would be Albright's only wins on the afternoon, however, as Widener won the other four individual events and also swept the relay races.

Albright returns to action next Friday when Division II Bloomsburg comes to Reading for a 6:00 meet.

November 9, 2007: Albright 93, Cabrini 67

Reading, PA - Albright tuned up for Saturday's huge conference clash with Widener by knocking off the Cabrini Cavaliers 93-67 Friday night in the Natatorium. The win keeps the Lions perfect at 3-0 on the season with the Pride heading to Reading tomorrow for an MAC showdown. Cabrini falls to 2-3 on the season with the loss.

Albright won five of eight individual events in the meet, and swept the relay races. The Lions opened the night with a win in the 400 medley relay. Senior Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), junior Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), and freshmen Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) and Jordan Hash (Shrewbury, PA/Susquehannock) teamed up to win the race in a time of 3:48.12. Freshman Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) won the 200 free in 1:51.03 to open the individual events, and after Cabrini's Matt McGuriman took the 50 free, sophomore Kyle Torrens (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) finished first in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:16.43. Sophomore Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) followed with a win in the 100 fly (56.80) to increase Albright's lead. McGuriman won the 100 free for the Cavaliers, but Daney got things back on track for Albright with a victory in the 100 back in 58.99. Cabrini picked up one more win when Josh Pace won the 500 free, and Sheerer closed the individual events with a victory in the 100 breast stroke (1:04.96). Albright closed out the meet by winning the 800 free relay. Daney, Kramer, Kubacki, and Stoloski cruised to the victory in a time of 7:44.61.

Albright will host Widener in an early battle for MAC supremacy Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Albright Natatorium.

November 3, 2007: Albright 145, Lycoming 114

Williamsport, PA - Albright swam past Lycoming 145-114 Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-0 on the young season. The Warriors are 0-1 in 2007. Albright won nine of 12 individual events and both relays contested on the day. The Lions opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Chris Sheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley), Jordan Hash (Shrewbury, PA/Susquehannock), Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), and Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) teamed up for the win. Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) won the first individual meet of the day, taking the 1,000 free. Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) followed with a win in the 200 free, and John Ferrara (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) took the 100 back. Scheerer then won the 100 breast, and Stoloski captured the 200 fly to make it six straight wins for Albright. Lycoming's Ryan Adamson snapped Albright's streak by winning the 50 and 100 free events, but the Lions came right back, as Sheerer won the 200 back and Hash took the 200 breast. Kramer won the 500 free, and after the Warriors took the 100 fly, Daney won the 200 IM to finish off the individual events. Albright closed out the win by taking the 200 free relay, as Kramer, Stoloski, and Sheerer joined Matt O'Neill (Ridley, PA/Ridley) to touch the wall in first place.

October 31, 2007: Albright 102, Lebanon Valley 72

Reading, PA - Albright defeated Lebanon Valley 102-72 in the first dual meet of the season Wednesday night. The Lions rolled to a huge lead early and never gave LVC a chance to catch up. Freshmen Eric Kramer (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) and Chris Scheerer (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) led the way for Albright, each winning two individual events each. Kramer took the 100 and 1,000 free, while Scheerer won the 200 IM and 100 back. Other event winners for the Lions were Adam Daney (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) in the 200 free, Matt O'Neill (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) in the 50 free, and Mike Stoloski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) in the 100 fly. Albright also won the 200 medley relay, as Scheerer and Stoloski teamed up with Jordan Hash (Shrewbury, PA/Susqeuhannock) and Jack Kubacki (Reading, PA/Antietam) for the victory.
