February 17, 2007: Juniata 82, Albright 70
Reading, PA - Albright saw its 2006-07 season come to an end with an 82-70 loss to Juniata Saturday afternoon in the Bollman Center. The loss closed out the careers of six Albright seniors; John Bernat, Mike Boles, Greg Conroy, Shane Harvey, Matt Kieselowsky, and Lee Walter. The Lions finish the season with a record of 10-14, 5-9 in Commonwealth Conference play. Juniata secured the second seed in the Commonwealth Conference tournament with the win, improving to 9-5 in the conference and 15-10 overall.
Albright got three-point baskets from Kieselowsky and Conroy to jump out to a 6-3 lead, but Juniata's Nick Hagar drained a three at the other end, and Brent Ferko's jumper a minute later gave the Eagles a lead they wouldn't give up for the rest of the afternoon. Juniata's lead grew to nine, 21-12, after a Brian Cannon three with just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening half. Albright used a quick 7-0 run, capped by an Andre Murphy three, to pull within two, but Juniata was able to keep the Lions at arms length the rest of the half and led 36-30 at intermission.
Juniata came out of the locker room looking to put the game away. The Eagles out scored Albright 15-4 to open the half to build their lead to a game-high 17 points, 51-34, with 14:33 remaining. Albright was not about to roll over on senior day, however, as the Lions slowly chipped away at the Juniata lead. Back to back three's from Taylor Steltz and Conroy capped a 17-6 Albright run that got the Lions within four, 59-55, with nine minutes left in regulation. The Lions would get as close as three, 61-58, after a Kieselowsky free throw with seven minutes remaining, but Juniata out scored Albright 11-4 over the next 3:30 to push the lead back to 10 and put an end to Albright's comeback hopes.
Albert Medoro led Albright with 12 points and eight rebounds, Kieselowsky had 11 points and five assists and Conroy added 10 points. Hagar led Juniata with 18 points, including a 5-8 performance from beyond the three-point line. Chris Jasiota had 15 and Cannon and Ferko each totaled 13 for the Eagles.
February 13, 2007: Albright 72, Lebanon Valley 65
Annville, PA - Albright gave up a 10-point lead late in the second half, but rallied to close the game on a 10-3 run to hold off Lebanon Valley 72-65 Tuesday night in Annville. The Lions improve to 10-13 on the season and 5-8 in Commonwealth Conference play while dealing a severe blow to LVC's playoff hopes. The Dutchmen fall to 6-7 in conference play and 14-10 overall with the loss.
Albright played a suffocating defense in the first half, holding LVC to just 22% shooting (6-27) from the field, and just 1-6 from beyond the three-point line. The Dutchmen were able to stay in the game at the free throw line, where they were 17-21 in the opening 20 minutes. A pair of free throws by C.J. Jewell gave Albright its largest lead of the half, 26-18, with three minutes left before the break, but LVC closed the half on a 12-4 run to head to the locker room tied at 30. Albright shot 40% (12-30) in the half, including a 4-14 effort from three, but were just 2-2 from the free throw line.
The opening minutes of the second half were back and forth, with neither team able to establish much of an advantage. The Lions led by three, 55-52, with 7:35 to play, when a pair of Tom Murphy free throws sparked a 7-0 run that put the Lions on top by 10, 62-52, with 5:48 remaining in the game. Kyle Brudvig had the last five points in the run for the Lions. The Lions went cold at that point, however, as LVC clawed its way back into the contest. Back-to-back jumpers from Jimmy Curran started a 10-0 run that ended with two foul shots from Dan Dunkelberger that tied the game at 62 with 2:33 on the clock. Albert Medoro scored in the paint to break the scoreless skid for Albright, and after a pair of missed opportunities at the other end, Brudvig put back his own miss to put the Lions on top by four, 66-62, with 54 seconds to play. Dunkelberger converted a three-point play 10 seconds later to pull the Dutchmen within one, ,66-65, but Medoro hit a pair of free throws on Albright's next possession to make it a three-point lead, 68-65, with 30 seconds left. Taylor Steltz then came up with a big defensive play, blocking Kyle Enoch's potential game-tying three. Andre Murphy claimed the rebounds, was fouled, and made both attempts to make the score 68-63 Lions with 20 seconds on the clock. LVC missed three shots in the final seconds, and Medoro sank two free throws for the final margin of victory for Albright.
Brudvig led Albright with 18 points, followed by Andre Murphy with 15 and Phil Hall with nine. Medoro had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lions, who shot 43% (25-58) in the game. Curran led all scorers with 20 points, including a 13-14 effort from the foul line. Enoch added 12 points for the Dutchmen.
February 10, 2007: Susquehanna 69, Albright 62
Selinsgrove, PA - Albright got a career-high 21 points from sophomore Phil Hall and saw senior Matt Kieselowsky go over 500 assists for his career, but is was not enough to overcome Susquehanna, as the host Crusaders held off a pair of second-half Lion runs to take a 69-62 win Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Albright to 9-13 on the season and 4-8 in the Commonwealth Conference, and ends any hopes of a spot in the conference tournament. Susquehanna improves to 15-8, 7-5 with the win.
Albert Medoro opened the scoring in the game off an assist from Kieselowsky, the 499th of the senior point guards career. The Lions soon found themselves in an 8-4 hole when Kieselowsky fed Kyle Brudvig for a bucket in the paint and the milestone 500th career assist. Susquehanna went on a 10-2 run, whoever, to open a 16-8 lead five and a half minutes into the contest. Back to back buckets in the paint from Joel Patch a few minutes later would push the Crusader lead into double-figures at 23-12. The Lions trailed 25-14 with 9:03 left in the half when Hall went on a run of his own, scoring seven straight points to pull Albright within four, 25-21, with 6:00 remaining in the half. Susquehanna answered with three's from Zac Smith and Andy Gaebel to put the Crusaders back on top by 10, and the lead would be 11, 38-27, as the teams went to the locker room at halftime.
Albright stepped up the defense to open the second half, holding the host Crusaders without a field goal for the first 6:49 of the half. Over that time the Lions outscored Susquehanna 11-1 to cut the deficit to just one point, 39-38. Susquehanna regained its offensive form and went on an 11-2 run of its own to return the lead to double figures, 50-40, midway through the second period. Once again it would be Hall who would pull Albright back into the game. After his jumper cut the deficit to eight and Kevin Cuff answered for the Crusaders to make the score 52-42, Hall knocked down a pair of free throws, then hit back to back triples to make the score 52-50 with 6:37 to play in the game. Once again, however, the Lions could not get over the hump, as Susquehanna scored eight of the next nine points, capped by a Brad Okonak three, to hold nine, 60-51, with three minutes remaining. Albright would not get any closer than six points the rest of the way as the Crusaders went 4-4 from the foul line in the final minute to out the game out of reach.
Hall's 21 points came on 8-12 shooting from the field, including a 3-6 effort from beyond the arc. Medoro finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brudvig chipped in with nine points before fouling out in the second half. Kieselowsky finished with a game-high eight assists, giving him 506 for his career, while Tom Murphy totaled a team-leading nine rebounds. Patch led Susquehanna with 20 points and nine rebounds, followed by Cuff and Matt McDevitt with 12 points each.
February 7, 2007: Albright 70, Widener 66
Reading, PA - Senior Greg Conroy drained a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to play to seal a 70-66 Albright win over Widener Wednesday night in the Bollman Center. The win keeps Albright's post season hopes alive, as they improve to 4-7 in conference play and 9-12 overall. Widener sees its losing streak extended to four with the loss, as the Pride falls to 6-5, 11-10.
Widener scored the first two points of the contest, but the Lions responded with the next seven points, all from Tom Murphy, and did not give up the lead for the rest of the half. Albright extended its lead to eight, 14-6, on a lay-up from Albert Medoro with 12 minutes left in the half. The Pride cut the Lion lead to three on a couple of occasions, the last coming on a James Jones bucket with 6:41 to play that made the score 19-16. Albright controlled the final minutes before the break, pushing the advantage to 13 points, 38-25, with a minute left in the half. Nyere Miller's three for Widener was the final score of the period as Albright took a 38-28 lead to the locker room at intermission.
The first 10 minutes of the second half were the Malcolm Thomas show, as the Widener senior single-handedly brought the Pride back into the game. He scored 14 of Widener's first 16 points in the first 5:30 of the second half as the Pride cut the Lion lead to four, 48-44. Three minutes later Thomas tied the game for the first time since the opening minutes with a three to make the score 50-50. Phil Hall briefly put Albright back on top with a lay up on Albright's next possession, but that would be the last Lion point for the next four minutes. Widener took advantage of the Lion cold spell, scoring seven unanswered points to take a 57-52 lead with 7:49 to play in the game. Kyle Brudvig scored in the paint to break the Albright drought, and Conroy followed with a triple to tie the game up at 57 with 7:06 on the clock. After a pair of Widener free throws gave the Pride a 59-57 lead, Conroy connected on a deep three to give Albright a 60-59 lead a spark a 7-0 run that would end with the Lions holding a 64-59 edge with 3:18 remaining. Albright led 67-61 after a pair of Medoro foul shots with 26 seconds on the clock, but Thomas knocked down a three at the other end to cut the Albright lead to 67-64. The Pride immediately fouled Kieselowsky, who made one of two from the line to push the lead to four, 68-64. Essian Ford's runner in the lane with nine seconds left pulled Widener within two, but Conroy sealed the deal with two free throws at the other end for the final score of the night.
Hall led Albright with a career-high 13 points, shooting 5-10 from the floor, including 3-6 from three-point land. Murphy finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Brudvig also finished with 12 points for the Lions. Kieselowsky had 10 assist for the Lions, leaving him just two assists short of 500 for his career. Thomas led all scorers with 33 points, shooting 11-16 from the field, 3-4 from three-point range, and 8-9 from the free throw line. Ford was the only other Widener player in double figures, finishing with 12 points.
The game also contained a special moment for the Lions, as it saw the return of junior Taylor Steltz to action for the first time this season. Steltz, who has missed all 20 games prior to tonight while battling cancer, dressed for the first time all season and checked into the game midway through the first half. He was greeted with a standing ovation from the Bollman Center crowd as his name was announced over the PA. Steltz played two minutes, and did not score in the game.
February 3, 2007: Messiah 69, Albright 63
Grantham, PA - Albright lost 69-63 at Messiah Saturday night in a Commonwealth Conference match up. The Lions battled the first-place Falcons for the full 40 minutes but could not overcome a late Messiah lead as the Falcons drained their free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win. The loss drops Albright to 8-12 on the season and 3-7 in conference play, while Messiah improves to 15-6, 9-1.
The two teams engaged in a physical first half that saw the Lions hold a one-point lead at half time, 30-29. The second half was more of the same, as the Lions and Falcons went back and forth with neither team able to take control of the game. Messiah was able to build a four-point lead with just under two minutes remaining in the contest, but Albright had the ball looking to cut into that deficit. Matt Kiesleowsky's runner in the lane just rimmed out, and after Messiah came away with the rebound, a foul on Albright sent the Falcons to the line for a pair of free throws and a six point advantage the Albright could not overcome.
Albert Medoro led Albright with another double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, both team-highs. He was one of four Lions to finish in double figures, as Kyle Brudvig added 13 points while Kieselowsky and Greg Conroy each contributed 12. Kieselowsky also handed out a game-high five assists. Messiah was led by Jared Yoder's 15 points, with Drew Sneeringer right behind him with 13 points. Jason Miller and Matt Henninger both finished with 12 points for the Falcons.
January 31, 2007: Albright 87, Moravian 73
Bethlehem, PA - Albright outscored Moravian 29-8 over the final eight minutes of play to turn a seven-point deficit into an 87-73 victory in a Commonwealth Conference tilt Wednesday night. The win is the second straight for the Lions, who improve to 8-11 on the season and 3-6 in conference play, while the Greyhounds fall to 10-10, 3-6.
Albright trailed for much of the opening half, until a Kyle Brudvig lay up tied the game at 24 with seven minutes left until the intermission. The Lions took a 27-24 lead on an Albert Medoro three-point play, but Moravian ran off five straight points to recapture the lead with 3:18 remaining in the half. The teams would go back and forth over the final three minutes before heading to the locker room at the break knotted at 35.
The Greyhounds opened the second half with a 7-2 run to build a five-point lead, 42-37, two minutes in. The Moravian lead grew to eight, 49-41, with 16 minutes to play, and although the Lions were able to cut into the lead by three or four points, still found themselves down eight, 56-48, at the 12 minute mark. A bucket by Medoro and a triple from Matt Kieselowsky sliced the lead to three, but Albright could not get closer, and after a pair of Chris Earley free throws with 8:07 on the clock, trailed by seven, 65-58. From that point on, however, the Lions turned up the defense and turned the game around. Over the next five minutes the Albright outscored the Greyhounds 13-1 to turn that seven-point deficit into a 71-66 lead with just over three minutes to play. Two Moravian free throws stopped the bleeding for the hosts momentarily, but back to back baskets in the paint pushed Albright's lead to seven, 75-68. Michael Clemente hit a three for Moravian, the Greyhounds' first field goal in over six minutes, to pull the Hounds within four, but that would be as close as the hosts would get. Albright sealed the win by hitting 10 of 10 free throws in the final two minutes and shutting the Greyhounds down defensively as the Lions pulled away for the double-digit win.
Albright dominated the game in the paint, led by Medoro and Brudvig. Medoro finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 9-13 from the floor and 5-6 from the field. Brudvig also totaled 23 points, hitting 9-11 shots from the floor and 5-6 from the line while adding three boards. The Lions dominated the glass, out-rebounding Moravian 43-26 on the evening. Kieselowsky added 17 points in the game while handing out five assists. Earley led Moravian with 14 points off the bench, while Steve Wenderfer and Eric Whitman each added 12.
January 27, 2007: Albright 81, Elizabethtown 73 (OT)
Reading, PA - Andre Murphy scored a career-high 19 points and Greg Conroy tallied eight points in overtime as Albright topped Elizabethtown 81-73 Saturday night in the Bollman Center. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Lions, who improve to 7-11 on the season and 2-6 in Commonwealth Conference play. The Blue Jays see their record fall to 6-12, 1-7.
The teams were deadlocked at 65 after 40 minutes of play, sending the game to extra time. Luke Ledyard gave Etown an early 67-65, but Albright answered when Murphy knocked down a three, his fifth of the night, to give the Lions a one-point lead, 68-67. After a Kris Kieres bucket put the Blue Jays back on top, it was Phil Hall's turn for the long ball, as he drained a three to make the score 71-69 Lions with 3:24 left in overtime. Albright held a one-point lead, 73-72, and had possession with a minute and a half to play. Matt Kieselowsky found Conroy for a deep three with one second on the shot clock to put the Lions up four with 1:08 on the clock, and the Blue Jays were unable to respond. Conroy would sink five of six free throws in the final minute to sew up the win for the Lions.
Both teams struggled offensively at the beginning of the game, as the game was physical from the get-go. Etown got untracked and pulled ahead by nine, 17-8, on a Ledyard tip in with 8:32 left in the half. The Lions trailed 20-13 when Murphy got going, knocking down back-to-back triples to pull Albright within a point, 20-19, with just under six minutes remaining until the break. Albright kept things close for the rest of the half and finally drew even at 26 on a John Bernat three with 2:20 on the clock. Etown out-scored Albright 7-3 over the final two minutes, however, and held a 33-29 lead at intermission.
Albright took its first lead since the early going on a Tom Murphy three-ball two and a half minutes into the second half that made the score 39-38. That would be the beginning of a back and forth second period that five lead changes and seven ties, with neither team holding more than a four-point advantage over the final 18 minutes. Albert Medoro's fast break lay-up and subsequent free throw completed a three-point play to give Albright a 64-60 lead with 4:38 to play, but the Lions could not pull free of the Blue Jays. Neither team would score for two minutes before Chad Piersol hit a three with 2:16 on the clock to pull Etown within one, 64-63. After Medoro made one of two free throws and Brian Goodwin hit two freebies at the other end, the score was all even at 65 with 1:10 to play. Neither team was able to convert in its final possession, sending the game to overtime.
Andre Murphy's 19 points came on 6-10 shooting from the floor, including a 5-8 effort from three-point range. The Lions as a team shot 54.5% from beyond the arc (12-22) in the game. Conroy finished with 14 points, eight coming in the extra session. Tom Murphy had 11 for the Lions, while Medoro had nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Albright dominated the glass, grabbing 45 rebounds to just 29 for the Blue Jays. Kieres led Etown with 20 points, including a 5-10 performance from three-point land. Ledyard had 16 for the Blue Jays and Michael Schatzmann added 10.
January 24, 2007: Susquehanna
90, Albright 77
Reading, PA - Susquehanna opened up a 12-point half-time
lead and did not look back in taking a 90-77 win over Albright in
Commonwealth Conference action Wednesday night in the Bollman Center.
With the loss the Lions fall to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in conference
play. Susquehanna sees its record improve to 12-6, 4-3 with the
win.
Albright jumped out to a 10-4 lead, and held five, 18-13, after
a Greg Conroy jumper seven and a half minutes in. Susquehanna scored
the next six points to take its first lead of the evening, 19-18,
on a Brad Okonak three with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Phil
Hall answered with a basket in close on Albright's next possession
to briefly regain the lead for the Lions, but that would prove to
be their final lead of the ball game. A Josh Robinson triple at
the other end put the Crusaders on top 22-20, and they slowly extended
their advantage to eight, 35-27, 4:35 before the break. Albright
was able to get as close as four on a couple of occasions, the last
coming at 41-37 after a pair of Albert Medoro free throws with 2:13
to play in the half. Susquehanna scored the final eight points of
the half, however, and took a 49-37 lead at intermission. Robinson
had 16 points at the break for the Crusaders, while Medoro and Mike
Boles each had 10 for the Lions.
Despite having a number of chances, Albright was never able to
get the Susquehanna lead back to single digits in the second half.
The Crusaders used an 11-4 run to open the half and push the lead
to 19, 60-41, four minutes into the second period. Albright worked
the deficit back down to 11 after a Medoro lay up and then came
up with a steal to try to get the Crusader lead down to nine. Susquehanna
came up with a steal of its own, however, and Robinson turned it
in to a three-point play to put the Crusaders back up by 14, 70-56,
with just under eight minutes to play. The Lions never let Susquehanna
run away and hide, but couldn't put together a run to get closer
as the Crusaders closed out the 13-point win.
Medoro posted another double-double for the Lions, leading the
team with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Conroy was next for Albright
with 13 points, including a 3-5 effort from three-point range, and
Boles finished with 11. Robinson led all scorers with 21 points,
followed by Bryan Majors with 19 and Joel Patch with 17. Patch also
finished with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Albright's inbounds pass was knocked away as time expired as the Eagles escaped with the win.

A three-ball from Murphy and a three-point play by Mike Boles capped a 7-0 run that allowed Albright to take a 10 point lead, 46-36, with 14 :24 left to play in the game. Juniata needed just two and a half minutes to cut the lead to three, but the Lions wouldn't let the Eagles get closer than two the until the final seconds. January 17, 2007: Moravian 81, Albright 78
Reading, PA - Moravian used 10 three point shots and took advantage of 22 Albright turnovers to edge past the Lions 81-78 Wednesday night in the Bollman Center. The loss spoiled a career night for Albright junior Albert Medoro, who finished with 31 points and 18 rebounds, both career bests. Albright sees its record fall to 1-4 in the Commonwealth Conference and 6-9 overall, while the Greyhounds, winners of five of their last six, improve to 2-3, 9-7.
Albright started the game with eight unanswered points as Moravian struggled to get going offensively. The Greyhounds came back with seven straight points, but a Medoro basket in the paint stopped the run and put Lion lead back at five, 12-7. Albright held a 22-17 lead after a Matt Baszika lay up with 8:21 left in the half, but eight straight points for Moravian gave the Greyhounds their first lead of the night at 25-22. Moravian was able to pull ahead by as many as four on another Whitman three with 3:41 remaining before the break. Albright came back with six unanswered points to take a 35-33 lead with just over two minutes to play, and the teams battled to a 39-39 tie at halftime. Medoro led Albright with 17 points at the break, while Whitman had eight to lead Moravian.
The second half was essentially 20 minutes on the see-saw. Their were 11 lead changes and three ties in the half. Moravian looked to take charge with a 6-0 run that gave the Hounds their largest lead of the night at six points, 64-58, with 10:15 remaining in the game. The Lions responded with seven straight points from Medoro to regain the lead at 65-64, only to see Moravian push the lead right back to five, 70-65, with five minutes to play. The back and forth continued for the final minutes, with the Lions taking a 76-74 lead after a Tom Murphy three-point play with 2:22 on the clock. Albright had a chance to extend the lead after a Moravian miss but could not capitalize, and Michael Clemente drilled a triple at the other end to put the Greyhounds on top for good at 77-76 with 1:22 to play. The Lions trailed 80-78 after a Murphy basket with 20 seconds left, when Clemente hit one of two free throws at the other end, had a chance to tie the game with a three on the final possession. Matt Kieselowsky took the final shot for the Lions under heavy pressure and couldn't get the shot to drop, leaving the Lions three points short at the buzzer.

The Lion lead grew to as many as 16 after a Conroy three with 6:21 to play, and the Lions held an 11-point edge, 38-27, at the intermission.
Albright continued its solid play in to the second half, and pushed the advantage to 17 on two occasions, the last coming after an Alex Schneider lay up that put the Lions on top 63-46 with 13:29 remaining in the game. Elizabethtown got back into the game with a 14-2 run that pulled the Jays within five, 65-60 at the nine minute mark. Albright weathered that run and responded with eight unanswered points, capped by a three-point play by Albert Medoro, to hold 13, 73-60, with just over seven minutes to play. Albright still held a 10-point lead after another Medoro bucket with 4:16 to go, but that would be the final Lion field goal of the night as Etown staged one final rally. The Blue Jays scored nine straight points to cut the deficit to one point, 79-78, with 25 18 seconds left on the clock. Conroy was fouled with eight ticks on the clock, and calmly sank both attempts from the line to give Albright an 81-78 lead. The loss drops Albright to 0-3 in conference play and 5-8 overall, while Widener sees its record improve to 3-0, 8-5.
Albright struggled mightily on offense in the opening minutes, scoring just three points in the first 10 minutes of play. Widener was not much more proficient, as the Pride held just a 12-3 lead midway through the opening period. Four straight points from Mike Boles cut Widener's lead to five, but to straight buckets from Malcolm Thomas pushed the edge right back to nine, 16-7, with 7:41 left in the half. The Lions started much better in the second half, getting a pair of three's from Kieselowsky and another from Tom Murphy, in building a 31-23 lead three and a half minutes in. Widener chipped away at the lead, slowly closing in and finally tying the game at 35 on a Terry Smith lay up with nine minutes to play. The Pride would open a three-point lead on two occasions in the final nine minutes, but each time Albright came right back to even the score. Trailing 46-43 with 1:35 remaining, Murphy scored in the paint to pull the Lions within one, and after a key stop, Kieselowsky drained his fourth three of the evening to give Albright a 48-46 lead with 25 seconds left in regulation. Thomas was fouled at the other end and hit both of his free throws, tying the score at 48 with 18 seconds on the clock. Kieselowsky had a shot at the game winner as time expired in regulation, but his fade away jumper was just off the mark, sending the game to overtime.
Boles drilled a three to open the scoring in extra time, only to see Widener respond with seven straight points to hold a 55-51 lead with 1:43 to play. Albright got a bucket from Medoro and a free throw from Conroy to get within one, 56-55, in the waning seconds, but after Nyere Miller hit one free throw for the Pride with three seconds to play, Conroy's attempted game-winner was no good as the final buzzer sounded.
Medoro and Kieselowsky each had 12 points to lead Albright, while Boles chipped in with nine. Shane Harvey had a team-leading nine rebounds for the Lions. Terry Smith led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Thomas with 15 for the Pride.

Penn College hung around, and did tie the score at 17 with 5:36 left before the break. Albright began to pull away from there, using back-to-back three's from C.J. The Lions methodically pulled away over that span, jump started by six quick points off the bench from Alex Schneider, to build their biggest lead of the night, 52-29, midway through the second half. Penn College would not get closer than 15 points the rest of the way as Albright put away the victory.

The win snaps a five-game losing skid for Albright as the Lions improve to 3-6 on the season, while the Gothic Knights see their record slip to 5-5.
NJCU took an early 7-2 lead, but a 12-0 Albright run quickly erased that deficit and gave the Lions a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. Albright heads in to the Christmas break with a record of 2-6, while the Crusaders improve to 5-2 with the win.
Albright started well, scoring the first five points of the game. Alvernia would recover and tie the game at nine on a Tyrone Bradley lay up, but Albright would not allow the Crusaders to assume the lead. Tom Murphy's first three-point shot of the game put the Lions back on top by three, 12-9, and the Lions would maintain their slim lead to the midway point of the half. Phil Hall knocked down a three with 10:09 left in the half to give Albright a 19-15 lead and start a 12-2 run that gave the Lions their biggest lead of the day, 28-17. A pair of buckets in the paint from Mike Boles sandwiched an Alvernia hoop in the final minute, and the teams went to intermission with the score knotted at 42.
The second half was nothing less than a shootout, as the lead changed hands on 13 different occasions. Both teams shot the ball well in the early going, and neither team held more than a three point lead for the first 12 minutes of the half. A Boles lay up with 9:31 left in the game gave Albright its largest lead of the half, 69-66. Alvernia responded with the first run of the second half, however, as Garrett Etzel scored seven straight points in a 10-0 push that saw the Crusaders open up a seven point edge, 76-69, with 7:15 remaining. The first six minutes of play saw the score tied three times and the lead change hands three times. Greg Conroy scored the first four points of the game, but that 4-0 lead would be Albright's largest of the afternoon. Ed Lapinski's lay up with 13:17 left in the half gave DeSales a 10-8 lead, and the Lions would chase the Bulldogs the rest of the game. Albright trailed by three, 12-9, with 11:18 to play before the break, but an 11-4 Bulldog run gave DeSales a 10 point edge, 23-13, four minutes later. The Bulldogs opened the second period with a 10-0 run to push their lead to 15, 45-30, just over four minutes in. A basket in the paint by Albert Medoro broke the scoring drought for the Lions, but Albright struggled to cut into the DeSales lead. A Phil Stricker lay up gave DeSales its largest lead of the game, 62-45, with 7:21 remaining in the game. The Lions started to chip away, and got the deficit down to nine after a Tom Murphy three-point play with 4:28 left to play. Reading, PA - Defending conference champion Messiah slipped past Albright 66-65 Saturday night in the Bollman Center. The loss drops Albright to 0-2 in conference play and 2-4 overall, while the Falcons raise their record to 4-1, 2-0.
The Lions had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, as Mike Boles went to the line for two free throws with the Lions trailing 66-64 and four tics on the clock. Boles made the first, but after a Messiah time out, saw the second shot rim out. After a scrum on the floor Messiah's Darryl Brown came away with the rebound and was fouled with 1.6 seconds left in the game. Brown missed both of his attempts from the stripe, but Matt Kieselowsky's 3/4 court heave as time expired was no good as the Falcons escaped with the win.
Albright started fast behind Albert Medoro, who had five points in a 7-0 game-opening run for the Lions. Messiah came back to take its first lead of the night at 12-11, and would hold the lead for the remainder of the opening stanza. The Lions hung around, not letting Messiah pull away as the Falcon lead bounced from two to six points for most of the half. A Greg Conroy jumper with five minutes to play in the half pulled Albright within three at 26-23, but Messiah outscored the Lions 9-4 to close out the half and led 35-27 at the break. Messiah's Matt Henninger led all scorers with 10 points at the half, while Conroy and Andre Murphy each had six to lead the Lions.
Bo Miller's lay up to open the second half scoring gave Messiah its largest lead of the night, 37-27, and the Falcons' lead was still nine, 40-31, 3:15 into the half. Albright responded with an 15-2 run, however, punctuated by a pair of Conroy three's, that saw the Lions take a 46-42 lead with 10:04 left in the contest. Messiah came back to tie the score at 51, but a Medoro three-point play put Albright back on top 54-51 with 7:15 to play. The Lions went cold from the floor, however, as they went scoreless over the next three minutes. Messiah took advantage, scoring nine straight points to hold a six point advantage, 60-54, with 4:21 left on the clock. A Matt Kieselowsky triple stopped the bleeding for the Lions, who would tie the score at 60 on a Medoro fast break lay up with 2:32 to play. Another Medoro bucket gave the Lions a 64-63 lead with just over a minute left, and the Lions missed a chance to extend the lead when Kieselowsky's three rimmed out on the next Albright possession. Brown was fouled on the rebound, made the first to tie the game at 64, then missed the second, only to come away with a long rebound. to retain possession. After a timeout, the Falcons' Ryan Miller was fouled and sank both free throws to give Messiah a 66-64 lead with 14 seconds left and set up the frantic finish.
Medoro led Albright with 16 points, followed by Conroy with 14. Kieselowsky had nine points and eight assists for the Lions. Henninger finished with 18 to lead Messiah, with Jared Yoder adding 16 for the Falcons.

Reading, PA - Albright fell to Lebanon Valley 79-74 in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night in the Bollman Center. The Dutchmen shot 56.9% from the floor in the game, including an 11-13 effort from Jimmy Curran, who led all scorers with 28 points. The Lions fall to 2-3 overall with the loss, while LVC improves to 3-2.
Neither team was able to establish much of an advantage in a rugged first half that saw six lead changes and 12 ties. Kyle Brudvig (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) was a force in the paint early for Albright, scoring the first 11 points of the game for the Lions. LVC held an 11-7 lead four minutes in, but Brudvig scored on two straight possessions, the last coming off an assist from Matt Kieselowsky (Moscow, PA/North Pocono), to tie the game at 11 with 15:18 remaining in the half. The assist was a milestone for Kieselowsky, as he became just the second player in Albright history to reach 400 career assists. The teams went back and forth for the next 10 minutes, until a Brian Wolenski lay up gave the Dutchmen a 32-28 lead with five minutes left before the break. Albright would respond with an 11-2 run over the next two and a half minutes, highlighted by a pair of three's from C. J. Jewell (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), to take the largest lead of the half for either team at 39-34 with 2:23 on the clock. LVC answered with a 7-0 run of its own to regain the lead at 41-39, but Andre Murphy's (Philadelphia, PA/Engineering and Science) tip in of a Greg Conroy (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) miss tied the game at 41 as time expired in the half. Brudvig had 13 points to lead all scorers at the break, while Mike Boles (Philadlephia, PA/Penn Charter) chipped in with seven points, all from the free throw line. Curran had 11 points for the Dutchmen, who shot 60% (15-25) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
After trading baskets a couple of times to open the second stanza, Curran scored five straight points in an 8-0 LVC spurt to give the Dutchmen a 53-45 lead five minutes in. The lead grew to nine, 58-49, with 13 minutes remaining in the game, but then the Lions began chipping away. A lay up from Boles and a triple by Conroy pulled Albright within four at 58-54, and the Lions would eventually tie the score at 64 on a fast break hoop from Albert Medoro (Exton, PA/West Chester Henderson) with 6:33 on the clock. Albright would not regain the lead, however, as LVC built it's advantage back to seven points, 76-69, on a Kyle Enoch jumper with 1:01 to play. Albright was able to whittle the lead back to three after a Kieselowsky three with 17 seconds left, and had a chance to tie the score after Curran missed the front end of a one-on-one. The Lions were unable to convert, however, and Enoch sank a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to ice the game for the Dutchmen.
Brudvig finished the game with his first career double-double, posting career highs with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Boles and Kieselowsky each had 11 points for the Lions, while Kieselowsky added five assists and Boles had three steals. York responded with a 13-2 run, capped by a Nick Brady triple, to retake the lead at 30-27 with 5:04 left in the half. Albright would fight back to retake the lead at 37-36 on a Kyle Brudvig (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) lay- up with 1:37 on the clock, only to see the Spartans score the final three points of the half and take a two-point lead, 39-37, at the half. Brudvig had 10 points to lead all scorers at the break, while Chad McGowan led the Spartans with nine.
York opened the second half with four straight points to push the lead to six, but the Spartans could not shake the Lions easily. Albright hung around, not letting York extend the lead, and finally evened the score at 51 on an Alex Schneider bucket in the paint with 13:34 to play in the game. Back-to-back three-point plays from Brady and McGowan quickly put the Spartans back on top by six, but once again Albright rallied. An 11-2 run, finished off by a Tom Murphy (Royersford, PA/Spring Ford) three, gave the Lions their first lead of the second half at 60-57. The game remained tight, but a Kieselowsky three with 3:37 left gave Albright a 69-64 lead and forced a York timeout. The Spartans leaned on McGowan down the stretch, as he scored five points in a 7-1 York spurt that saw the Spartans retake the lead at 71-70 with 1:46 left in regulation. Despite numerous chances for each team, only one more point would be scored in the game, that coming on a Nate Lankford free throw with 10 seconds left to give York a 72-70 lead. Kieselowsky got a good look on the final shot, but the ball would not go down and the Lions fell just short.
Brudvig finished with 19 points to lead Albright, followed by Murphy with 11 and Albert Medoro (Exton, PA/West Chester Henderson) with 10. Medoro had 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double, while Kieselowsky totaled eight assists. The Lions struggled from long distance, hitting just three of 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Conroy's final triple of the night came with 15 seconds left in overtime, and followed on the heels of a Jim Welsh three that gave King's an 84-82 lead with 27 seconds on the clock. Jamie Cousart's shot to win the game for the Monarch's with three seconds left rimmed out as Albright held on for the win. Conroy scored the final seven points of the game for the Lions, nailing four straight free throws before his game-winning three.
The Lions looked to have the game won in regulation. King's trailed by one, 74-73, but had the ball with the shot clock turned off. Matt Kieselowsky (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) stripped the ball away, however, and was fouled with four seconds left on the clock. He calmly sank both free throws, giving Albright a 76-73 lead. Cousart sent the game to overtime with a double-pump shot from just inside half court as time expired to tie the game at 76. King's took a 78-76 lead two minutes into OT on a John Soboleski basket, but Albright answered with two free throws from Albert Medoro (Exton, PA/West Chester Henderson). Vince Scalzo knocked down a three on the Monarch's next trip to take a three-point lead, 81-78, but Conroy's four straight from the line would set up the exciting finish.
Albright started fast, opening up a 20-9 lead 12 minutes into the contest. 10 straight King's points cut the lead to one, but the Lions responded with six unanswered to push the lead back to seven, 26-19, with just under five minutes left in the half. The Monarch's would outscore Albright 17-6 in the final five minutes, however, and took a 36-32 lead to the locker room at the break.
In what was quickly becoming a game of runs, Albright started fast again in the second half, going on a 15-3 run, highlighted by a pair of Conroy three's to turn the four point deficit into a 47-39 lead five minutes in. King's responded with a 11-2 run to take a 50-49 lead with 13:49 left in regulation, setting up a back and forth final 14 minutes. The Monarch's held a 63-57 advantage with 8:03 left, but Tom Murphy (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) stepped up with five points around a King's basket to keep the Lions close. Trailing 68-65 with 4:42 on the clock, Albright ran off six unanswered points to hold a 71-68 edge with 2:28 to play. That would turn into Albright's 74-73 lead, Kieselowsky's free throws, and Cousart's bomb to send the game to overtime.
Conroy led four Lions in double figures with a career-high 24 points. 13 of those points came in the second half, seven in overtime. Murphy had 17 for the Lions, while Kieselowsky added 15 and Alex Schneider (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) chipped in with 10. Kieselowsky also handed out a game-high nine assists, while Medoro pulled down a game-best 13 rebounds. Cousart led all scorers with 27 points, followed by Bob Nenstiel with 18 and Scalzo with 15 for the Monarchs. Cousart also dished out seven assists in the game.

The Cardinals struggled from the floor at the outset, and Albright took advantage, running out to a 13-2 lead seven minutes in. The Lion lead would bounce between seven and 11 points for the next four minutes, as Albright held a 20-10 advantage after a Matt Kieselowsky (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) free throw with 7:54 left in the half. The Cardinals used an 11-2 run over the next six and a half minutes and pulled within one, 22-21, on a pair of Fumai free throws late in the half. Albright got a pair of buckets from Albert Medoro (Exton, PA/West Chester Henderson) around a Fumai field goal over the final 1:25 and held a 26-23 lead at the half. The Lions held Catholic to an 8-33 shooting effort in the half, including 1-12 from beyond the arc, but were just 1-7 from long distance themselves in the opening stanza.
The Lions opened the second half with six unanswered points to lead by nine, 32-23. Catholic battled back within two, but Albright answered right back and pushed the advantage to 10, 46-36, on an Andre Murphy (Philadelphia, PA/Engineering and Science) jumper with 10:05 left to play. Another Murphy bucket a minute and a half later gave the Lions their largest lead of the night, 53-42. The Cardinals responded with a 12-1, and pulled even at 54on a pair of Patrick Dwyer free throws with 4:18 to play. Albright came out of a timeout with a bang as Kieselowsky drilled a three, but the Lions would not score again until 46 second remained on the clock. In the interim Catholic scored nine unanswered points, taking its first lead of the game at 59-57 on a Fumai triple with 3:10 to play. Tom Murphy (Royersford, PA/Spring Ford) broke Albright's scoreless skid with a three-point play that pulled Albright within three, 63-60, with 46 seconds remaining in regulation. A Medoro tip-in got the Lions within two, but Fumai was 3-4 from the line down the stretch to clinch the win for the visitors.
Medoro led Albright with 15 points, followed by Murphy and Kyle Brudvig (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) with 10 points each. Murphy had a team-best 10 rebounds, while Kieselowsky passed out six assists. The Lions struggled from long distance, making just three of 19 shots from beyond the arc. For the Cardinals, after Fumai's 21, Dwyer and Mike Wasilenko each added 13 points, while Stephen Wheeler pulled down 10 boards. Dwyer and Wasilenko joined Medoro and Kieselowsky on the All-Tournament Team, along with Neumann's DJ Fritz.

Reading, PA - Albright opened the 2006-07 season in style in Friday, defeating Adrian College 74-51 in the opening round of the Wyndham Tip-Off Tournament in the Bollman Center. The Lions will face Catholic University, an 85-73 winner over Neumann in the first game of the night, Saturday at 8:00 in the tournament championship game.
Albright jumped on the visiting Bulldogs right from the opening tip, running out to a 14-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Lions scored 10 of those points in the paint, as senior point guard Matt Kieselowsky (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) was able to find open players down low for easy baskets. A three-point basket from sophomore center Phil Hall (Northampton, PA/Northampton) gave Albright it's largest lead of the half, 22-8, with 11:17 remaining before intermission. Albright still held a 12-point lead, 30-18, with 4:16 to play in the half, but Matt Wayne's three-point play with 2:29 left capped a 6-0 Adrian run that cut the Lion lead to six, 30-24. A second-chance lay-up from junior Tom Murphy (Royersford, PA/Spring Ford) and a three from senior Greg Conroy (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) put Albright's lead back into double figures, and the Lions took a 39-26 lead to the locker room at the half.
The Lions put the game away at the outset of the second half. Albright opened the half with a 17-3 run to lead 56-29 just under four minutes in. Adrian would not get closer than 18 points the rest of the way as every Lion in uniform saw at least nine minutes of action in the game. Murphy led Albright with 14 points, followed by junior Albert Medoro (Exton, PA/West Chester Henderson) with nine and Conroy, junior Alex Schneider (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser), and junior Kyle Brudvig (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) with eight points each.
