2007 Golf Match Recaps


April 29, 2007: Commonwealth Conference Tournament

Shawnee-On-Delaware, PA - Junior Mike Heller shot a 110 over the final 27 holes of the Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Shawnee Country Club to finish the 54-hole tournament in a tie for fourth place out of 35 competitors. The Lions finished the day with a team score of 464, giving them a 54-hole total of 939, good for fourth place.

Heller's 110 was four shots better than the 114 he carded on Saturday, and vaulted him from 10th place after day one to his tie with Susquehanna's Zach Prowant for fourth place. Junior Erik Carl fired a 117 on Sunday to give him a 238 total for the tournament, tying him for 17th overall. Junior Brett Lehman was next for Albright with a two-day total of 239, putting him in 21st position. Senior Jeremy Gilliam shot a 116 on Sunday, 12 strokes better than his round on Saturday, to finish 26th at 244, while sophomore Mike Ranaldo totaled 245 to place 27th.


April 28, 2007: Commonwealth Conference Tournament

Shawnee-On-Delaware, PA - Albright is in fifth place after Day One of the Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament at Shawnee Country Club. The Lions posted a 27-hole team score of 475, trailing first-place Susquehanna by 30 strokes, but just four shots behind fourth place Widener. Junior Mike Heller fired a six over par 114 to sit in 10th place after 27 holes, nine shots behind Moravian's Brian Bergstol. Junior Brett Lehman was next for the Lions with a 27-hole total of 116, followed by junior Erik Carl with a 121. Sophomore Mike Ranaldo came in a 124 to round out the team score for the Lions, while senior Jeremy Gilliam shot a 128.

The final 27 holes of the tournament will be played on Sunday afternoon.


April 24, 2007: Delaware Valley 316, FDU-Florham 319, Albright 341

Doylestown, PA - Albright dropped a tri-match to Delaware Valley and FDU-Florham Tuesday at Delaware Valley. DVC won the match with a team score of 316, while FDU shot 319 and Albright posted a 341 score. Junior Mike Heller led Albright with a 77, followed by freshman Jason Angstadt with an 82, his best round of the season. Junior Brett Lehman was next with an 89, followed by senior Ed Cicchi, who shot a 93 in his final college match. Senior Brett Winig also played in his final match for the Lions, shooting a 107.


April 23, 2007: John Yocum Challenge Cup

Reading, PA - Albright won two matches and halved a third on the second day of the John Yocum Challenge Cup against Alvernia Monday afternoon, but it was not enough to prevent the Crusaders from winning the Cup 5 ½ - 3 ½ . Alvernia held a 2-1 advantage after Sunday's partners matches, but Albright quickly evened the match when junior Mike Heller defeated Derek Stewart 3 & 2 in Monday's first singles match. Junior Erik Carl halved his match with Doug McConnell, putting the overall team score at 2 ½ - 2 ½ with four matches to play. Senior Jeremy Gilliam won his match 6 & 5, but that would be the final point of the day for the Lions, as Alvernia won the three remaining matches to win the Challenge Cup.


April 22, 2007: John Yocum Challenge Cup

Reading, PA - Albright and Alvernia squared off for Day One of the second annual John Yocum Challenge Cup at the Reading Country Club. Alvernia holds a 2-1 lead after three partners matches on Sunday. In the first match of the day juniors Mike Heller and Erik Carl halved their match with Derek Stewart and Jeremy Landis. The second match of the day saw senior Jeremy Gilliam and junior Brett Lehman fall 4&3 to Doug McConnell and Will Tonking. Sophomore Mike Ranaldo and freshman Jason Angstadt halved the final match of the day when Ranaldo rolled in a long birdie put on 18 to salvage half a point for the Lions. Monday the teams will square off in six singles matches on the final day of the Yocum Cup at the Berkshire Country Club.


April 12, 2007: Elizabethtown Spring Invitational

Hershey, PA - Three members of the Albright golf team played in the Elizabathtown Spring Invitational Thursday afternoon at the Hershey Country Club. Junior Mike Heller was the low man for the Lions, completing the par-71 east course with a round of 82. Junior Brett Lehman was next for Albright with an 87, and senior Jeremy Gilliam finished his round with an 89.


April 11, 2007: Albright 340, DeSales 358

Macungie, PA - Albright defeated DeSales by a score of 340-358 in a dual match on a cold, blustery afternoon at the Brookside Country Club in Macungie. Junior Mike Heler led the way for the Lions, shooting an 81 on the par-71 course, giving hi the second-lowest round of the match. Senior Jeremy Gilliam was next for Albright with an 84, followed by freshman Jason Angstadt at 86 and senior Ed Cicchi with an 89. Bo Snyder of DeSales had the low round of the day with a 75.


April 5, 2007: Moravian Invitational

Bath, PA - Albright junior Mike Heller fought off brutal conditions to shoot a five-over par 76 and tie for sixth place at the Moravian Invitational Thursday afternoon on the Southmoor Golf Course. With wind chills below freezing for most of the round, Heller shot a 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back to card his best score of the young spring season. Junior Brett Lehman was next for Albright with a 91, followed by junior Erik Carl with a 92 and freshman Jason Angstadt with a 93. Albright's team score of 352 put the Lions in 17th place for the tournament.


April 2, 2007: Lebanon Valley Invitational

Reading, PA - Albright opened its 2007 Spring schedule at the Lebanon Valley Invitational Monday afternoon at the Lebanon Country Club. The Lions posted a team score of 336 over the par-72 course, good for a fifth-place finish out of 24 teams in the tournament. Junior Mike Heller led the Lions, firing a 77 to place third in the individual competition out of 116 players. Junior Erik Carl was next for Albright, carding an 81 to finish in 14th position. Senior Jeremy Gilliam and junior Brett Lehman rounded out the top four for the Lions, shooting an 88 and 90 respectively to give Albright it's final total of 336.
