 Albright Represented on MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll

MACANNVILLE, PA - The Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll, which notes academic excellence by student-athletes, contains 561 honorees which was announced by Executive Director Ken Andrews Tuesday morning.

The Honor Roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.

Albright College had a solid representation on this year’s Academic Honor Roll as 36 student-athletes were recognized by the conference.  Included on this year’s team was Men’s Soccer First Team All-Conference selection Maarten Kootstra (Mt. Penn, PA/Antietam), and Football First Team All-Conference honorees Tanner Kelly (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) and Matt Christ (Birdsboro, PA/Reading Central Catholic).

 Women’s Cross-Country Competes at NCAA Mideast Regional Meet

NCAA Division III Cross-CountryWAYNESBURG, PA - The Women’s Cross-Country team closed out their 2008 campaign competing in the largest meet of the season, the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Meet, which was held by Waynesburg University Saturday morning. 

Out of field of 44 teams, the Red and White managed a team finish of 36th place, with Johns Hopkins University taking the top spot with final team time of 23:04.  Earning the top individual finish was Ursinus’s Christa Johnson who closed out the 6K race with a time of 22:01.

Leading the way for the Lady Lions was senior runner Melony Alcorn (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) who finished in 176th place with a time a 26:37.  Gabrielle Stine (Archbald, PA/Valley View) trailed her teammate by ten seconds and closed out her final race of the season with a time of 26:47 (184th place).

Sophomore Michelle Reinhart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) was next to cross the finish line for Albright with a final time of 27:14.  Mallory Ketterer (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) and Tomesha Campbell (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) finished Saturday’s meet with the exact same time, (28:12) to earn 225th and 226th place respectively.

Kristin Sawey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon Senior) who competed in her final meet as a member of the Albright College Women’s Cross-Country team ended the afternoon with a final time of 30:27.  Freshman Nicole Kelly (Brick, NJ/Brick Township Memorial) put forth a great effort in the final stretch of the meet finishing the day with a time of 31:25.

 Stine and Alcorn Pace Women’s Cross-Country at MAC Championships

LANCASTER, PA -  Sophomore runner Gabrielle Stine (Archbald, PA/Valley View) and senior runner Melony Alcorn (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) finished in 46th and 48th place respectively to pace the Lady Lions at the 2008 Middle Atlantic Conference Women’s Cross-Country Meet held in Lancaster, PA. 

Out of the 14 teams that competed in this year’s conference meet, Albright recorded a team finish of eighth.  The top finish went to the host Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College who saw their first five runners cross the finish line in the top 20.  Messiah’s Jennifer Kooser took placed first for the Falcons with a time of 22:40.87. 

For the Lady Lions Stine crossed the finish line with a time of 27:03.89, while Alcorn closed out the meet with a time of 27:15.45.  In her first ever conference meet Mallory Ketterer (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) earned the third best finish for the Red and White with a time of 28:01.55.  Tomesha Campbell (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) was next in line for Albright with a 58th place finish and final time of 28:18.04.

Michelle Reinhart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) closed out the top five in 68th place and a time of 28:48.69.  Kristin Sawey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon Senior) came across the finish line in 90th place as she battled extremely hard through the tough terrain that was the Lancaster course.  First year runner Nicole Kelly (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) finished in 99th place recording a time of 32:33.07.  Kyra Schirk (York, PA/Red Lion Senior) ended the afternoon for the Lady Lions with a time of 35:12.65 and a 111th place finish. 

Women’s Cross-Country will take next weekend off before competing in the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross-Country Regional meet two weeks from Saturday.
