Andrew Aurich - Tight Ends/Assistant Offensive Line/Long Snappers
Andrew Aurich is entering his first season on the Lion coaching staff as the Tight Ends and Assistant Offensive Line Coach. A 2006 Graduate of Princeton University, Aurich was a two year starter on the offensive line for the Tigers and handled long snapping duties for one season. Aurich was part of the 2005 team that beat Harvard and Pennsylvania for the first time in ten years and an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks on the season. Upon graduation from Princeton, Aurich played one season of semi-pro football for the Midwest Pioneers of St. Paul, MN starting as a TE/FB helping the Pioneers win the Mid-America Football League title. In 2006, Aurich entered the coaching ranks at Concordia Academy High School in Roseville, Minnesota where he served as the OL coach and Quality Control Coordinator. His father, Mike Aurich, has been the Head Coach at Concordia Academy for over 25 years. Mike Hoyt - Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebacker Coach
Mike Hoyt begins his fourth season as Defensive Coordinator at Albright College. Hoyt graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY in 1992. He was a three letterman as a safety for the Golden Griffins. As a senior, Hoyt was named a CoSida Academic All-American, team defensive MVP, and voted captain by his teammates. Hoyt began his coaching career in 1992 at Onondaga Central HS in N.Y. where he worked with the defensive backs and offensive line. He moved to Port Byron H.S. in N.Y. for the '93 season working with the running backs and defensive backs. After two years in the high school ranks, Hoyt returned to Canisius for the '94 & '95 seasons to work with the defensive line where he mentored Div. IAA All-American and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Frank Zabawa. Coach Hoyt moved on to DII Millersville University in the PSAC for the '96 & '97 seasons where he also coached the defensive line. In 1998 he joined the staff at Franklin & Marshall College coaching running backs before becoming the head coach at Solanco High School in Lancaster County for the '99 & '00 seasons. Hoyt returned to F&M as linebackers coach for '01 & '02 seasons and coached the secondary in 2003. Mike also serves as the Director of Strength & Fitness for all of Albright's athletic teams. Michael Neale - Wide Receivers/Returners
Mike Neale begins his first season at Albright coaching the wide receivers and kick/punt returners. Neale comes to Albright from Grossmont College, a national junior college powerhouse, where he worked with the offensive skill players. From '00 through the '06 season, Neale coached the offensive skill players at Valhalla High School in San Diego, CA. While at Valhalla, Neale mentored an offensive unit that produced over 4,000 yards of offense each year for five straight seasons, and ranked as one of the top scoring units in San Diego County; averaging over 32 points per game. Neale also served as Strength and Conditioning Coach at Valhalla for the past 4 seasons. As a player, Neale enjoyed a record setting high school career as a running back and return specialist at Valhalla, which produced a number of honors; including being voted to the All-San Diego CIF team. Neale continued his career as a running back and receiver at Grossmont College, while also receiving all-conference recognition as a return specialist. Neale completed his playing career as a wide receiver at Southwest Missouri State University in 1999. Neale received his AA degree from Grossmont College in 1999 and his BA in History from California State University, San Marcos in 2002. In addition to a successful coaching background, Mike has four years of extensive business experience as a commodities broker and owner of 2 businesses. Steve Opgenorth- Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs/Specialists
Steve Opgenorth begins his 1st season on the Albright College coaching staff as the Special Teams Coordinator and defensive backs coach. Prior to joining the Albright staff, Opgenorth was the wide receivers and specialist coach at Carroll College. During his time at Carroll, Opgenorth developed a First-Team All-Conference wide receiver, a Second-Team All-Conference tight end, and a First-Team All-Conference kicker. Opgenorth helped revive the Carroll College program into a prominent force within the Midwest Conference while also serving as assistant recruiting coordinator through 2005-2006... Opgenorth was a four year scholarship student-athlete and starter at Winona State University. He ended his career as the second leading scorer in WSU history with 323 points and holds 10 all-time school records. In 2005, he was named a member of the Winona State University "All Century Team." Collegiate accolades include being named to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference 1st team in 2001, 2003; 2nd team 2002... Daktronics All-Region Selection 2002, 2003 National AllStars.com Senior Bowl selection and named procollegefootball.com "Top 5" draft eligible senior specialists in 2003. Opgenorth was a member of 3 NSIC conference championships, 4 straight post season appearances including 2000 Mineral Water Bowl champions and 2003 NCAA Division II Playoff Quarterfinalists... Graduated from Winona State University cum laude in May 2004 with a degree in Business Eduaction and is also completing his master's degree in adult educational leadership from Carroll College. Opgenorth has been published in Wisconsin Coaches Association annual publication with an article dedicated to Special Teams. Zachary Reding - Defensive Tackles/Assistant Special Teams Coordinator
Coach Reding enters his first season coaching on the Albright Lion's staff. He will be working with defensive tackles and special teams. Reding, originally from Darien, Ct., graduated from Dickinson College in May 2007 with a degree in history. He was a four year letterman and three year starter at defensive tackle for the Red Devils. Reding helped lead Dickinson Football to two conference championships, including an 8-2 regular season and a trip to the NCAA playoffs in 2006. As a senior he was named to the All-Centennial Conference team. While at Dickinson, Reding was a 4 year member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity where served for two years on the executive board. He also served as the head lifeguard, taught swimming classes, and served as head coach of the water polo team at Woodway Country Club in Darien.
Nathan Slutzky - Outside Linebackers / Video Coordinator
Nathan Slutzky is entering his first season coaching for the Albright Lions. Slutzky is originally from Chicago and comes to Albright from Boulder, Colorado where he worked in football operations focusing on recruiting efforts for the University of Colorado Buffalos. He is a 2007 graduate from the University of Colorado with a 3.57 GPA in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Economics. At the University of Colorado, Slutzky worked closely with head coach Dan Hawkins, 11 th in Division 1-A winning percentage among active coaches, and Brian Cabral, who has produced two Butkus Award winners and 19 NFL linebackers in 17 years. Slutzky has an extensive background in computer and digital video technology as he worked professionally as a video editor for Post Effects, Inc and IAG Productions based in the Chicago area. He also produced several recruiting video presentations for the Colorado Buffalos. While a student at CU, Slutzky served as the head football coach for the Boulder Bears for two seasons leading them to a record of 9-2-1 including one league championship. He is also a member of the Theta Xi fraternity where he served as a two term member of the executive council.
Mike Winslow - Offensive Coordinator/ Offensive Line
Mike Winslow begins his first season as Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach for the Lions. Prior to his appointment, Winslow served as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at I-AA University of Maine. Maine is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), formerly known as the Atlantic-10 Conference. In 2006, Winslow served as assistant defensive backs coach at Maine and worked with a defensive unit that led the nation in Rush Defense, and was ranked near the top in several other statistical categories. Winslow assisted in developing a strong secondary that finished 2 nd in the Atlantic 10 in Pass Efficiency Defense. The unit included a pair of All-Atlantic 10 performers in Manauris Arias and Daren Stone. Arias was also named to the All-New England Football Writers Division I-AA All-Star team. Stone was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons back in April. Prior to coming to Orono, Winslow spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Thiel College. Winslow helped lead the resurgence for the Tomcats who went undefeated in the 2005 regular season. The 11-1 campaign included the school's first ever NCAA national-playoff berth and first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship since 1972. Winslow also served as the head coach and offensive coordinator for Thiel's junior varsity program. As the Tomcats' wide receivers coach; Winslow developed Brandon Chambers into a two-time All-American, South-Region Co-Offensive Player of the Year; and three-time All-PAC performer. Chambers holds the majority of the schools' receiving records, including career receptions (203), career receiving yards (3,111) and career touchdown receptions (34). Winslow's receiving corps also included 3 other All-PAC performers and an Academic All-American. A native of Reynolds, PA Winslow graduated with a B.A. in English from Thiel College and resides in Reading.
Randy Yerger - Defensive Ends
Randy Yerger is beginning his first season as defensive ends coach at Albright. Yerger is originally from Boyertown, Pa and attended The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa where he was a three sport student athlete. He earned all-area and all-state honors including a state MVP in Baseball along with “player of the year” honors in football. After the Hill, Yerger attended Lehigh University where he played football on the '93 Patriot League Championship team. After his sophomore year he transferred to Wilkes University to pursue a degree in Business Administration and play both football and baseball. He was an offensive starter and special team's player for two years on the football field earning a trip to the ECAC playoffs. In baseball, Yerger lead the team, league and nation in several offensive categories and was twice voted an All-MAC selection and team MVP. Upon graduating from Wilkes, Yerger went back to The Hill School as an assistant baseball and football coach. He served as both the Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator at the Hill while mentoring one of his former players towards reaching the NFL. Yerger played a leadership role in bringing a pilot youth football program to Oley Valley, a school which does not currently have a high school program. Yerger is self-employed in the construction and log home manufacturing industry. He is married to Kristin L. Yerger and they have a daughter, Brooke and a son, Wyatt.
