Hello Bridget, I got your comment and I have answers!
QUESTION:
hey kelly, my name is bridget. i went to the campus tour back in november and you spoke at the meeting along with some other student ambassadors, and i remember you saying that you had a blog. so i decided to check it out and see what it was like, since now i know for sure i will be coming to albright next year! :-) anyways, i wanted to ask you how you like albright and living in the dorms. also, i was wondering if theres an intermural basketball team there because i love playing it, but im not the greatest at it, so i dont know if i'd tryout for the team. i am kinda tall tho, so that seems to work in my favor occasionally when getting rebounds and stuff. and how is it during the winter time on campus? it probably snows a lot. well, thanks for putting up with the questions. maybe i'll see you next year around campus!
First of all- CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance to Albright! I bet it is a huge lift off your shoulders! Getting accepted into college and deciding on a place is probably in the top ten best feelings of relief, ever. Alright as for how I like Albright, I absolutely love it! It is a small college and it is a community. I love the atmosphere! The people are great, especially the professors. The professors are willing to work with you in and out of the classroom, which I think is key. You're paying all this money to get an education you might as well get as much out of it as you can.
I am a big fan of the dorms. I love living in them! This is rather ironic coming from me, since dorm life was what I was most nervous about when going to college. Now, it is my favorite part (after my classes of course :-) ) Seriously though, the dorms are pretty nice compared to dorms at other colleges I saw. Freshman year (last year) I lived in Crowell-so I'm definitely partial to that dorm over Walton , the two freshman experience dorms. I liked living in Crowell so much because it is made up of all freshman. In the first couple weeks it is really easy to meet people. Everyone is new, no one knows anyone, you're all from all over the place, and you're all nervous about that same things! The PE's (Peer Educaters) and the RA (Resident Advisors) do an excellent job of getting everyone mingling and socializing with each other. As for the whole roommate thing, Albright assigns you a roommate based on a roommate evaluation sheet you fill out (you'll probably get that in the spring). You have a 2 week grace period where you and your roommate have to work out your differences and then after that if you do not get along you can request a roommate change. I was super nervous about this and I am still living with my roommate. We got/get along wonderfully! So it does work out-I wouldn't worry about it too much..seriously.
YES! We definitely do have intramural basketball! We have it in the fall and in the spring. It is co-ed and girls do play. I highly recommend you play if you love basketball! People really get into it, it's A LOT of fun!
Winter time on campus is cold haha. We get snow, but I don't think we get that much. I'm from Connecticut and so I'm used to getting a lot of the fluffy white stuff. Classes are rarely cancelled! A lot of the professors live right off campus and so they can trudge to class just like the students. That is the downside to the wintertime. An upside is a lot of people go sledding! Students are quite inventive with their sled options. Stealing trays from the cafe, since no one uses them anyway, is a popular move as well as using garbage bags and the plastic bins you buy at walmart where you put clothes and shoes etc. Or you can splurge and actually buy a sled. Sledding on campus is soooo much fun!
I hope I was thorough enough. Let me know if I can answer anything else! I'm sure I will definitely be seeing you on campus next fall! Have a very happy holiday!
God Bless!

Hey Kelly! :) Hope basketball is going well. Yah I know, I'm one of the people that actually read this that already go to Albright ;) I'm always bugging Salaam to update his.. Anyway, I saw the letter that Bridget sent and I thought I'd pass some of my feelings onto you, that way she might see them too... Well Bridget, I'm a senior (it goes by soo fast! scary thought isn't it!) And I've lived in campus housing every year! I wouldn't change it. Two years directly on campus, and two up in the Woods Apartments... by far the best decision I ever made was to stay on campus! For one, facilities fixes anything you could ever need, I don't have to pay the electric bills (crank up the heat!) ;) And the SGA van comes up to the Woods to pick me up when I don't feel like driving, or walking, to class! I didn't have the chance to live in the freshmen dorms my first year at Albright, but that doesn't mean I wasn't there! I had tons of friends that I visited all the time.. and if you know me.. you know I still visit Walton and Crowell all the time! I just wanted to reassure Bridget that it is SOO worth it to stay on campus.. As far as winter, not only isn't the weather too too bad.. but we also have a Ski Club that you can join and they take you to nearby mountains for day trips! Even if you don't know how to ski or anything they'll set you up with lessons, equipment, and everything! Well, I guess I'm going on and on!! So I'll leave it up to Kelly to continue with her great blog! ;) Luv yah Kell! Hope all is well!! ..oh and Happy New Year! :)
