another WOW experience...

Let me tell you that the Leann Rimes concert was unbelievably amazing!! Practice ran a little late. We didn't get out of practice until 7:20 so Marie and I both booked it back to our rooms, showered and got ready rapid fire...Natalie dropped us off at the Sovereign Center by 7:55. Marie and I were in our seats by 8:00. It could not have worked out more perfectly. Out seats were pretty good. The Sovereign Center is not that big so there really are not bad seats, but the person I was sitting next to was a little "different". This guy was talking to himself and was completely not enthused by the concert at all. So, after the opening act we relocated to the center section where there were not a lot of people. Thankfully the show wasn't close to being sold out. There were still a decent amount of people there however. After the opening act (i don't know who it was but they were pretty good) Phil Vassar hit the stage. He was so much fun! He got the crowd really pumped up and excited! He sang Piano Man which was really fun-the whole crowd was screaming it. Then finally the spotlight was on Leann Rimes. W.O.W. Yes she definitely left both Marie and me WithOutWOrds. We were both singing to the other acts, but with her we found ourselves just sitting there listening to her. Her voice is so pure and gorgeous. She really has a God-given talent. She also was very down to earth, which I was surprised about. She has grown up in the spotlight and normally the fame gets to these celebrities heads, but not to hers. It is so refreshing to see, especially in the world we live in today. This was definitely the perfect first concert to see. Then after the concert Rob picked us up in a 5 year olds Spiderman Costume. Yes he got out of his car to find us wearing this extraordinarily tight costume. This is definite dedication. This kid is awesome!

Friday was definitely successful. I have some pictures but they aren't developed yet. Don't worry I'll get them up here eventually...stay tuned.

This weekend was the celebration for Halloween. My costume cost me $1.27. You can't beat that! Talk about a costume college budget style. Booyah to that! What was I you ask? You know when, especially in the winter, when your shorts stick to you or other clothing sticks to you or you touch someone and you get shocked...I was that. Static Cling. My roommate was a bunny. Here is a picture of us:
gator%20and%20me.JPG
my hair was more staticy-not so much here though.

Then I went to hang with my bball girls...here is a picture of most of us:
bball%20girls%20halloween.jpg
HAHA i love these girls soo much!

Well Happy Halloween everyone! Unfortunately it's a school night and I have a spanish quiz at 8 por la manana.

God Bless!

HOLD THE PHONE

So tonight Friday, October 28th at approximately 8 p.m. I will be attending my first concert. Yes I am fully aware this is completely pathetic and sad, but there's a first time for everything. Marie and I are seeing Leann Rimes at the sovereign center which is like 8 minutes away from campus. I CAN'T wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I'd share some excitment with you all and leave you with....

How do I,
Get through the night without you?
If I had to live without you,
What kind of life would that be?
Oh, I
I need you in my arms, need you to hold,
You're my world, my heart, my soul,
If you ever leave,
baby you would take away everything good in my life,
and tell me now
How do I live without you?
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
Without you,
There'd be no sun in my sky,
There would be no love in my life,
There'd be no world left for me.

"How Do I"
Leann Rimes

Alright this girl is out like the peanuts in creamy peanut butter

oh and stay tuned...underwear/pins/electic shock-halloween costume..that's all I have to say....

GOD BLESS

Feliz Cumpleaños Albright College

That's right! It is Albrights 150th birthday! 150 years ago in 1856 this place became Albright College. Jacob Albright was the founder of the Evangelical Church (which was formed by the merger of the Evangelical Assoication and the United Evangelical Church in 1922-just another branch of Chrisitianity ). Another little tidbit for you is this campus was originally the campus of Myerstown College and Schuykill Seminary, but they merged together in 1928, then was named Albright after Jacob Albright in 1856. Just some Albright History for you all. Kudos to working in admissions!

Alright well this past weekend was HOMECOMING! My mommy and daddio came up! It was an awesome weekend! Friday I had basketball practice and didn't get to do too much since we had 6am practice Saturday morning...so I slept in Shannon, Natalie, and Maries apartment (awesome basketball players). The dorms were probably going to be really loud with all the Homecoming festivities so it was better to stay off campus. Then Saturday morning 5 am we were up and at em for practice. Practice went really well! It's amazing how much you feel you accomplish when you get up that early...not to say I want to do it every weekend..but it wasn't too bad. Then around 2:30ish my fam came up. It took them forever to get here since the heavens opened up and the roads were terrible. I met them at their hotel and my mom and I went to Vanity Fair Outlets to do some shopping. AWESOME! I had never been there before and it's awesome! Definitely got some good stuff. Then my roomie(gator) mom, dad, and me went out to dinner to Viva. A very good restaurant although our waiter was definitely on something. He was not with it at all. Gator and I split the most amazing chocolate cake for dessert. It was out of this world. It was kind of like the cake that kid in Matilda was forced to eat by the Trunchbull (spelling?). After dinner, Gator, Marie, Shelby, and I went to see Elizabethtown. SUCH A CUTE MOVIE! It is definitely a WOW experience. WithOutWords. Yes we definitely coined that term Saturday night. It's one of those movies you love but at the same time you hate it. Reality is not so elegantly pleasant especially in finding the man or woman of your dreams after failing horribly in the corporate world. The harsh reality is you're going to live the rest of your life in an old house with 39732474 cats, alone. Not fall in love with your flight attendant after you've lost all self respect. But, we still watch these movies over and over again..I guess it is a place to find hope...

Anyway, Sunday rolled around and there was a Jacob Albright Scholar Brunch that I attended. My mom, dad, roomie,Shelby, Rob, Trevor, Trevors Dad, Dave and I sat together. Rob, Trevor, and Dave all lived in Crowell last year. The freshman dorm Gator and I lived in. This year we all live in Krause together. Kind of romantic? Sure. Well the boys definitely were entertaining. It's a nice honor to be part of this Brunch, but these things tend to get a tad tedious. So between the text message battles and Daves casually late appearance completlely dishevled, we were moderately entertained. The food was fantastic too!

After the brunch my mom and dad had to peace out since it's a long drive home. It was great to see them though. Then I spent the rest of the day doing some homework and studying for my Psychology test on Monday. After spending the entire night in the library I did well on it! Pretty happy about that! I also got my Spanish Oral and Test grades back on Monday and I did well on both of those!

We have our course selection sheets for spring semester already so we have to meet with our advisors this week or next week. I came into Albright as an Alpha major which is undecided and I'm finally going to declare. I'm going to do the ISP (Individualized Study Program) which is unique to Albright. You can combine concentrations to create your own major. I'm combining Sociology, Spanish, and Theater. I'm pretty excited about it. I wasnt' going to do Spanish but I'm going to Spain this summer and the classes I'll take will count towards graduation so when I come back next fall I'll only need one more Spanish Class to satisfy my Spanish Concentration. So it is silly not to do it.

Alright well i have practice in a bit and homework to finish. So for now I'm off...

God Bless!

AND it's time for round 2....

Fall break is over and we're back in action....

SOO Sunday night at 6 pm the Albright Lady Lions Women's Basketball Team hit the court! That's right folks the season has started! Practice went quite well on Sunday night and then Monday we had 8-10 practice then 1215-2. Considering it was doubles it wasn't all that bad. Then that night we worked concessions for a high school playoff soccer game played in our BRAND NEW stadium. We didn't get paid for it...BUT we did get all the cashola that we made as a fundraiser=super sweet! Then today, Tuesday, we had lifting at 8am then practice 10-12. That was a little rough since we were all little sore already. We have to think long term not short term. We're winning some games this year! After practice the whole team hit up lunch in the Dining Hall. There is nothing better than sitting in the cafe with a big glass of ice water and a pbj! I was one happy camper. The little things in life seriously make it all worthwhile.

After my amazing pbj I came back to the dorm, showered, and then did some laundry. If it wasn't for my amazing pbj for lunch, the trip to the laundry room (2 floors below=A LOT OF STEPS) would never have happened. Since I was on such a roll of being productive my friend Marie, who is on the bball team as well, and I went to Giant and got the makings to make a cake. It's my friends 20th birthday tomorrow and what better way to celebrate a birthday in college then to have a nice fresh cake.

Alright well let me tell you, EVERYTHING turns into a to-do. We got the cake mix, icing, sprinkles, vegetable oil no problem well, some minor mishaps, but thanks to the wonderful shoppers around us we were able to find everything- It's all about the teamwork. Anyway, we get back to Marie's apartment, since she has a kitchen. (We have kitchens in the dorm but, you have to get it opened and what not so it's just easier to go to her apartment) Okay, so we're in the kitchen getting our cook on-Marie's adding all the ingredients, I'm cleaning or trying to look busy, and then she's like, Kel I don't have a beater. (mind you we're not using a regular ole mixing bowl thingy but a cooking pot so we were already setting ourselves up for something) Since she lives in an apartment complex where several Albright Students live I called up my dear friend Kate who is a Domino Player (what it is!) Since Kate is amazing she not only had a beater but an electrical one! So I ran across the parking lot and got the beater. We beated the mix thoroughly and poured it into the pan, put it in the oven, and we were back in business! Except her oven doesn't beep when it reaches the desired temperature so we had to wing it. Ladies and Gentlemen we did not burn the cake we got it just right!

Then tonight around 11:00 a bunch of people in the dorm were in his room and my roommate (gator), marie, natalie (who is also on the bball team), shelby (who lives across the hall from me) and myself came in with the cake and sang happy bday. We couldn't wait till midnight because people wanted to go to bed early. I think he was surprised so it was a mission accomplished. I think Marie and I are going to start our own little mini surprise bday bash corporation. We're trying to think of some good names...I'm taking suggestions.

Alright well class tomorrow, Homecoming this weekend, my parents coming who I haven't seen in 2 months= a fantastic week ahead of me! Alright until next time....God Bless

ThE bReAkInG oF faLL

I survived midterms...well barely....

It's the halfway point! The first half of the semester is down and round two starts in 3 days! Well, the campus is pretty much dead except for the occasional encounter with a squirrel. It is fall break here at Albright. It's a wonderful 4-day weekend that is much needed, especially after this week. Most of the students choose to go home since it is our first long weekend. I was thinking about going home, but we have our first practice Sunday night so it's really not worth it. Let me tell you how unbelievable excited I am for the season to start. I mean we only won 5 games last year so we have to improve. We have everyone back except for the one senior we lost, Maura. So, we will see how everything goes..don't worry I'll keep you updated. So this time tomorrow night I will be in practice. WOW it's the beginning of a long season we don't end until the end of February maybe March if we make playoffs...LETS GO LADY LIONS woot woot. I’m pumped!

Well, thats tomorrow night. Tonight I'm relaxing! There are about 5 people in the dorm so I'm going to take advantage of the quiet atmosphere and pop in a movie and go to bed early I think. Two girls on the basketball team, Miss Jennifer DuPrau and Miss Jacqueline Hardwick are here so I was at there house today after work. I worked in admissions all morning giving tours. It was a lot of fun. I love working Saturdays because we only give tours we don't have to do office work which I HATE. So I was on cloud nine today. Then for dinner tonight I went to the Chinese Restaurant that’s right off campus. The school gives us passes to eat off campus when the Dining Hall is closed-so that's a definite perk. I went with T and Rich who are Domino Players with me-the theater group on campus. Dinner was excellent until I started eating my pork fried rice. There was a really, really, really extremely HOT pepper or something that I ate by accident and THIS GIRL was DOWN FOR THE COUNT! Holy smokes!(no pun intended) My eyes were watering like no other, my breathing ways were not working, and my throat was hotter than Brad Pitt in Troy. It was terrible. I'm still feeling it and it's been an hour! Yikes. What’s the lesson here? Before eating pork fried rice one must carefully comb through and inspect it to make sure there are no unpleasant surprises.

On that note I’m going to pop in Friday Night Lights, sit back, and relax.

God Bless!

Weekend off campus

So this weekend I was able to get off campus....

I never have the opportunity to go home because it's really inconvenient. It’s a long drive and we usually have basketball practice or a game. I also feel like I’ll miss something on campus if I go home. The season starts next weekend so this was my last chance to get away. My parents are coming down here for Homecoming in 2 weeks so I decided to go visit my friend, Stacy, at Hofstra University in Long Island. What an adventure. I left at 2 in the afternoon on Friday and went over the George Washington Bridge while it was raining cats and dogs-you could argue lions and bears but you get the picture, and during rush hour. (I have no idea what I was thinking) The only thing I had were my CD’s. I have a nice collection of them that have been accumulating from friends since I’ve been here. So I had my Christian Rock music blaring, my windshield wipers wiping at full speed, the rain ricocheting off my car, the Jersey drivers who even though it’s pouring are still in a rush going 80 miles an hour zooming by me, and I’m singing at the top of my lungs. I just wanted to get there and my motto is slow and steady wins the race, so we were not stopping. I was like the little engine that could. The drive was fairly easy except for the 2394732487374 parkways in New York-I must have gone on at least 5. But besides that after 4 hours and change I arrived on the Hofstra campus. YAY!
My friend gave me perfect directions so it was a piece of crumb cake. The dorms at Hofstra are really different then ours here at Albright. My friend’s dorm room cannot even be considered a dorm room, it’s a suite. Basically there is a little common room when you enter, a bathroom on your right and then two double occupancy rooms. So there are four girls who live in the suite. The room was really cute since they did a really nice job decorating it. She got to choose living in this building for this year but she lucked out and got suite-style living freshman year too. Talk about a sweet deal.
Anyway it was a long drive and I was starving so we decided to go to dinner. We went to Bertucci's and since I live in a box I'd never been there before. It was super good! Then on Saturday, Stace and I went into the city to see her mom and her friend. We took the train into Penn Station (which was temporarily closed on Friday because of a terrorist threat-so I was a tad nervous). There was a cat show going on at Madison Square Garden and that's why her mom went into the city. We took a stroll through the cat show which is quite a big deal. I was surprised. Then we went to lunch at Mustang Sally’s. It was absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend it. After we stuffed our faces we hit up Macy’s. Alright I’ve been to the city many times before but somehow I’ve never been to Macy’s. WOW. I have never been so overwhelmed in a store in my entire life. There were more people in Macy’s then there are students at Albright. There was an entire floor just for cosmetics. AN ENTIRE FLOOR. When you walked by, the salespeople approached you and tried putting makeup on your face. So technically if you live in the city you can just make a pit stop at Macy’s before work, have them do your makeup, and then be off on your merry way to work. Lets just say hypothetically they ask you to buy something since they just devoted time to your face. All you have to do is explain to them you want to see how long it will last. I mean investing in makeup is a big deal. You don’t want to buy stuff that will smudge or fade really easily. Fair statement? You’ll probably never be caught if you plan it out correctly. The trick is to make sure you don’t see the same salesperson, the stores definitely big enough to keep rotating. So in 4 or 5 years when I’m in grad school in New York and I’m even poorer than I am now, I’m hitting up Macy’s every morning. It’s a perfect food proof plan. I’ll keep you posted.
Anyway, we perused through Macy’s for about an hour and half until around 5. Stace and I wanted to get a 5:14 train so we walked briskly in the windy rain back to Penn Station while Dodging the New York walkers with umbrellas-talk about the most dangerous walk EVER. New Yorkers don’t mess around on regular days-rainy days its a whole new ball game every man for themselves. Good riddance.
When we arrived back at the train station near school Stacy’s friend from school picked us up and brought us to a bagel shop since I was told the best bagels are Long Island bagels. I was a little skeptical, but sure enough my cinnamon raison bagel was out-of-this-world. If you go to Long Island definitely make a bagel stop-so worth it. Then after that we went to a bakery to get cannoli’s -I love these things! I definitely ate more than I did all week this weekend. The food was so good! Then I left at about 10 Sunday morning and made it back here in 3 hours. It wasn’t raining so it was a fairly easy drive.

this is my friend Stace and me^

It is now 8:00 and I have class tomorrow so I have to start my homework or at least attempt it. I have a very busy week ahead of me. Fall breaks this weekend (4 day weekend) so most of campus is going home but I’ll be here since our first practice is Sunday. Let’s go Lady Lions! 05-06 season HOORAH to that! Alright until next time…

God Bless

Entry numero uno...Welcome to the Blog of Kelly Cross

Without further delay let me get us all on the same page...

Alright I arrived at Albright on August 23 at approximately 10:53 a.m. and this is when the fun began. About 60 upperclassman arrived on this day for POPS-Peer Orientation Persons. We basically welcome the freshman class. We move all their stuff into their rooms for them and lead them through the freshman orientation process.(which is 4 days) POPS are students who basically have a lot of energy and are willing to act like fools. We sing songs and dance-it's a grand ole time. So by the time POPs was over I was exhausted. But, there wasn't any time to recuperate because on Sunday we went to Dorney Park.(an amusement park close by) POPS get to go for free and the freshman who decide to go can go for $30-this includes admission and an all you can buffet! Booya to that! Well, Dorney was a wonderful time except when it was time to leave. Ryan, another POP, and I were left by the bus. We were told to go back to the entranceway and wait for some freshman who hadn't made it to the bus yet-so we went and after 10 minutes NO ONE showed up so I walked back to where the buses were to find that there were no buses. I was like alright it's ok...they probably just moved the buses closer to the entrance (I mean they can't leave POPs right? How could they forget us..there were only 8 of us on the trip) Well to make a long story short the buses left Ryan and me. So we called the head person and they had to turn the buses around and pick us up. Let me tell you, there is no feeling like when you're standing on the sidewalk and you see two buses coming toward you with EVERYONE staring at you and laughing. You definitely feel like a winner that's for sure. Ya it was a good time.
That concludes Orientation. Now POPS are completely over and we're all back to being normal college students. It is no longer acceptable to go into the Dining Hall singing a song about a Frog. Oh well...
My classes for this semester are quite difficult. I don't have one that I can slack off in. I'm taking Spanish 301, Sociological Stratification 262, Great Ages Theater 288, and Psychology 100. I'll get into classes next time I'm too tired right now. Tiempo hacer mi tarea...It's time to do my homework.

Adios for now and God Bless
