Rory Quintner once thought that getting an education wasn't for him. But he noticed that his colleagues in computer technology (with degrees) were getting promotions and job offers. After just a few semesters at Albright, he received a promotion of his own. He also discovered that learning transformed his life. Read his story below.

Meet Rory Quinter

When I graduated from high school, I saw no need to further my education. By the time I was 20, I had landed a fantastic job at Firestone, the same company where my father had thrived until retirement. Good jobs like that were hard to find, but after a year and a half the plant shut down.

After a couple more jobs and other company closings, I decided to get a technical certificate in computers, but I still felt held back by my lack of an undergraduate degree. As a computer lab technician in a hospital, I noticed that the instructors with degrees seemed to have no problem finding jobs. So, when my girlfriend suggested I go back to school (and showed me an ad for Albright College) I guess a seed was planted.

I met with an Albright enrollment counselor and I entered the program. The classes were tougher than I ever could have imagined, but because the instructors were always there for me, I pulled through. Albright made a huge difference in my life. I'm now the technology coordinator for a new 30 million dollar building at the same hospital.

I've also rediscovered the joy of the learning process itself. For me, education has improved every aspect of my life, from talking to my co-workers to my favorite hobby — birdwatching! My advice for potential students is simple: "Hang in there because you can do it. It will be well worth it. I never thought I would say this, but education will open up a whole new world for you."
