Meet Diana Palacios

Diana Palacios was the first in her family to graduate from college, but she didn't apply to any colleges after graduating from high school. A few years later it started to bother her that she didn't have a degree. So she applied for Albright's accelerated degree program at the age of 24. Now, she's talking her sister into applying for the program. Read her story below.

Meet Diana Palacios

I didn't initially plan to go for my bachelor's degree. People told me I was good at cutting hair and I headed for cosmetology school after high school graduation. But not long after I landed a job in a salon, a severe skin allergy put me in the hospital... more than once.

I realized I had to switch gears and started taking classes at my local university while I was working fulltime as an accounting assistant. But, I was frustrated because I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. A friend at work told me about Albright's Degree Start Program in accounting and I was curious.

What I really liked was the length of the classes — many of which were only five weeks long. It seemed like a perfect fit and frankly, I had never seen any other program like this. When I spoke with the program director at Lancaster, I knew it was what I wanted to do.

In the beginning, with the quick pace of the classes, it was hard for me to manage my time between work and school. Thankfully, the small class sizes made all the difference. The instructors were always there to help me and gave me extra time. I felt like I got the personal attention I needed to help me not only hang in there, but thrive. So I was able to move from Albright's Degree Start Program to their Degree Completion Program.

Now that I've got my degree, I'm thinking about going into public accounting. And, I'm talking to my sister about entering the program.
