Meet Lori Homsher

As Vice President of an IT company, I noticed that when I looked through resumés, I usually leaned favorably towards candidates with degrees. While I had an Associate’s Degree and many certificates (Linux, Security, etc.), I really wanted to build a stronger foundation for myself by pursuing a computer science degree.

I had also started teaching information security with a certification company and so I realized that I would really benefit from additional knowledge at a foundational level. It was time for me to go back to school.

At first I searched online and looked at several online programs. But I realized that I wanted the traditional classroom experience. I decided to go to Albright specifically because of the Cohort system. I liked other things about it too, such as how engaged the professors were in the classroom and the fact that books are covered in the tuition.

I’ll be honest. The coursework was challenging. We used to joke that one of our classes should have been called IT Survivor, but the professor was so supportive. In fact, all of my professors were available for extra help. I also carted my books with me everywhere. If I had to go to one of my kid’s tennis games or anything at school, the books would come with me. Even if I only had 15 minutes, I would take them along. On top of that, I made study CD’s and played them in my car so I could drill myself during my commute to work.

I love to learn so I enjoyed the program every step of the way. And I’m grateful that the courses at Albright helped me gain the foundation in technology I was lacking before. It’s also led me to new pursuits. Now, I’m pursuing a Master’s in Technology Management with an E-business focus in the University of Maryland’s online program.
