Meet Lucy Cortez

Lucy Cortez always dreamed of having a degree by a "certain age." Now that she's aced her way through Albright's accelerated program, she's making plans to get her Doctorate by the age of 55! Read her story below...

Meet Lucy Cortez

After 20 years of working at American Bank, I was really looking for a career change. But like so many other people, I had taken a detour in my education. I didn't want to be part of the shoulda' coulda' woulda' club, so I looked at schools in Philadelphia, as well as some online programs in Washington. But nothing appealed to me.

I really wanted to physically be there — in a place where I could learn from individuals in the same field and hopefully in the same age group. So I was thrilled when I found a nearby program that actually fit in with my busy schedule and family life.

We have other colleges in our area, but nothing at all like this. For a start, all of my work experience was taken into account, including business seminars and conferences. What also helped me is that the classes built off one another and provided me with a real sense of focus. We were set up as cohorts so you stay with that group of individuals for the entire length of the program. I learned from the friends I made and we still keep in touch.

If you want to feel empowered for yourself, know that there are excellent resources to help you along the way. Start off where you left your education and move on to the next level in your life. Now, I'm planning to have my doctorate by age 55!
