Following the merger of Albright College and Schuylkill College in 1929, the building now called Teel Hall, was dedicated as the Evangelical School of Theology, affectionately referred to as The Angel Factory. When the Evangelical School merged with Bonebrake Seminary and moved to Ohio in 1954, the building was renamed Teel Hall in honor of the first president of Albright College in Reading, Dr. Warren F. Teel.
Teel Hall now houses psychology, business and economics, and political science. Its facilities include Kachel Chapel, a computer lab and the Psychology Department's research center.
Warren F. Teel
Warren Floyd Teel (1868-1932) was appointed principal of Schuylkill Seminary in 1901 and immediately moved the school back to Reading in 1902. Schuylkill Seminary flourished under Teel's leadership and in 1923 became Schuylkill College. In 1928 when Albright College in Myerstown merged with Schuylkill College, Teel was elected to remain as the first president of Albright College in Reading.
A charismatic leader who was popular with students, Teel was known for declaring a holiday from classes so students could help complete construction or maintenance projects on campus.
Teel was a successful fundraiser as well. William Luden, president of Luden's Candy, kept a signed check in his desk should Teel show up at his office. Luden would ask Teel how much he wanted and immediately write the check because if he didn't have a check ready, Teel would talk him into giving more.
Dr. Charles E. Kachel '24
Dr. Charles E. Kachel '24 served the College from 1936-1942 as director of religious activities, a religious counselor and also personnel director. In addition, he was the secretary for the Board of Trustees and the executive committee. He had several pastorates including Park United Methodist Church in Reading. Albright awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1944.
